Buddies with Rooms 4 and 19
This term we have been working hard with our buddies. We spend several lessons together for discovery.
We have created story poles to tell our family stories and discovered where we live in our community. We have shared and made books using our Book Week theme “Find your treasure”. These books were put into a piñata for a fun activity about discovery. Books were made about treasure maps, things we treasure and things that are important to us.
My story pole had things stuck on it to tell about where we live. Matilda
My book is about buried treasure. Dayne
My book is about finding treasure, inside there is a map and a boat. Tatum
The family pole tells us about our house. Ryder
In my book you have to find the magic treasure. Declan
Room 31
This term as part of our Geography studies on ‘Australia’s connection to a diverse world’, Room 31 developed inquiry questions and researched the Thai Cave Rescue. We learnt about the international effort to help rescue the boys as well as the challenges that the rescuers faced when trying to free the boys from the flooded cave. As part of the project, we also created an art piece as a tribute to the rescue efforts, recognising those involved, the wild boar’s soccer team and the navy seal diver that lost his life trying to save them.
Room 10
In Room 10 we have been preparing for book week and have completed a number of art activities linked to the book titled, Boy.
We have made thank you treasure bags to hold Auslan sign cards, which will help us communicate with the character, Boy. We also made our own treasure maps and clay dragons.
There has been amazing work in Health
so far this term!
Our theme is all about the body!
Receptions have been learning about the physical changes that happen to people as they grow up. Each class has brainstormed and shared amazing changes that happen, like learning to walk, growing taller, muscles and bones getting stronger and learning to do things by ourselves.
The year 1 and 2’s have been exploring the many bones in the human body, how they grow and how we can keep them strong. They are using scientific bone names to label skeletons. We are beginning to explore how calcium helps with bone strength.
The year 3/4 and 5’s have been focussed on the physical, social and emotional changes that occur throughout puberty. They are beginning to work on researching appropriate sites and strategies to help manage these changes.
6/7 classes have been exploring the effects media can have on body image and the importance of critical analysis and positivity! We have reflected on self-perspectives and the difference between how we think and feel about ourselves compared to how others truly see us!
Remember we are all perfect just the way we are and no one wants us to be anything others than ourselves!!
We were very lucky to have Frances from the Heart Foundation come in to talk to the year 2 and 3 students about healthy eating on Thursday the 16th (week 4). We learnt about how different food groups help certain organs and even got to see how gross a burger, chips and coke look all blended up!! Definitely showed us why it is just a sometimes food!
Keep healthy everyone, Mrs Foley
Room 5a
This term in Room 5A we participated in a Responsible Pet Education Program. We learnt how to be safe around dogs and how to say hello to dogs with their owners. In maths, we have been exploring measurement. One of our activities was to work in groups to make the longest paper chain. Students could only use 1 piece of paper, scissors and a glue stick. They all worked well together. This week we also celebrated Book Week, the children all looked fantastic and enjoyed the parade.
Room 17
On Tuesday we took part in the Book Week Parade. We had lots of fun dressing up as our favourite book characters. The theme this year was “Find your treasure”.
Lots of students and teachers participated this year.
Room 29
We have had such a fabulous term so far. It has been jam packed with learning and such a great variety of opportunities. We have loved being part of the ‘Rock and Water’ Wellbeing program. We have been working with Master Alex on how to use breathing to lower our anxiety and anger when we come across tricky situations in life. We even hovered ping pong balls by focusing our breathing. We have also been learning about capacity and measuring the amount of liquid containers can hold. Poetry and Oral language have been a big focus for us in Literacy.
