Games Challenge

“Over the past 6 months, four teams of Year 9 and 10 students have been working on projects in the STEM Games Challenge. This is an extracurricular, national competition, in which the students create a video game that addresses a theme. This year the theme was “Emergence”, which was an especially tricky concept for the boys to learn and incorporate into their games. All four teams made it through to the second round of judging, which is an excellent achievement. They will receive certificates and feedback in late November. However, one of our Year 10 teams, “J3C Productions” produced a game that reached round 3 of judging and had their game assessed by an industry professional! They did not win their division, but to be a finalist is a huge achievement.

It was recently announced that their game “Soul Quest” will be part of the exhibition of games at Scienceworks Museum from late October until the end of the year. At this exhibition the general public will be able to play “Soul Quest” and the other winning games from the competition. A huge congratulations to James Davidson, Jack Marken, Charlie O’Neill and James Wills for their excellent efforts in the project.

Well done to all teams – it takes so much effort over a long period to produce a game for this competition and they all did very well.”
