Principal's Report

As the first term of the year draws to a close, it is a great opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved as a school community so far in 2019.  Every student in the school has worked alongside their teachers to develop clear and specific goals for their reading, writing and mathematical learning. They have used these goals to guide and direct their learning over the term and our teachers have used a range of strategies to monitor and support student learning growth.

Throughout the term, Mrs George and I have visited classrooms on regular basis to check-in with students and see what they are learning.  We ask students questions like "What are learning?", "How are you doing?", "How do you know?", "How can you improve?" and "Where do you go to for help?".  The answers we get to these questions give us a clear picture of how our students are learning and where our teachers might continue to improve their practice.  It has been great to see that our students have a very clear understanding of what they are learning and the processes in place to help them learn.

This term our students have also shown their understanding of what it means to be a great learner as they collaborated to define what it means to be a 5-Star Learner.   They have articulated a clear definition that we use in every classroom across the school, they have created definitions that are specific to their own classroom and they have shared their understanding of the 5-Star Learner with their peers at a special PBS Sharing Session.

So great to see the learning that happens at KPS every day!!

Twilight School

WEDNESDAY 1st MAY

Our annual Twilight School and Open Day will be held on Wednesday 1st May.  Over recent years this day has become a highlight for our students and families.  Twilight School involves shifting the school day to begin at 12.00pm and finish at 6.30pm.  We will be running our usual Wednesday program and you will have the opportunity to see all our classes in action.

On Wednesday 1st May the school day

will start at 12pm and finish at 6.30pm

Our student leaders and Principal Team will be leading tours of the school during each session.  These tours are open to both prospective and existing parents.  If you would like to join a tour and hear more about the great things that occur each day at Kilsyth Primary School, please contact the office.

We recognise that families may have other commitments on this day, and understand that students may need to be collected from school early.  If so, please ensure that students are signed out at the office before they are collected.

We hope to make this a great day celebrating the fantastic things that happen at Kilsyth Primary School and encourage you to invite Grandparents or other significant people in your child’s life to come along and see how they spend their time at school.

SWPBS Acknowledgement

One of the biggest highlights for our school over Term One has been the great work our students have done in taking on our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support approach.  This was a significant initiative in our school through 2018 and continues to gather strength in 2019.

The SWPBS initiative is supported by the Department of Education and, as a school, we have been recognised as having successfully achieved a high level of fidelity in our implementation of the approach.  The regional SWPBS coach and co-ordinator of the Health, Wellbeing and Specialist Branch  of North East Victoria Region of DET, Lisa Walker, has been working closely with our school over this time and will be joining us at our Twilight School on Wednesday 1st of May to make a presentation to our school and help us celebrate our achievements.

Please join us for our special assembly on

Wednesday 1st May at 5.20pm.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday break.  See you on TUESDAY 23rd APRIL!!!
