PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS & REPORTING - TERM 1
Over the last week teachers have been completing Student Performance Average (SPA) reports for students in Years 7-12. The five categories assessed will be Accomplishment, Productive use of class time, Effort & Attitude, Managing Personal
Time and Attendance. Each of these categories will be marked out of 5 with 4 being the ‘expected’ level.
We encourage students and parents to study the results in each category for each subject and consider how well they have gone and how they might be able to improve as the semester progresses. The SPA report encourages this discussion not just between parents and students but also between students and their teachers. These reports are now available on Xuno.
The SPA reports, in addition to the Learning Goals developed and discussed at the First Day Student Conferences earlier in the year, will form an excellent talking point for our Parent/Teacher interviews at the end of this term.
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on: Wednesday 23rd March 4.00pm-7.00pm
Thursday 24th March 10.00am-1.00pm Interviews will be conducted in the Personal Learning Centre, Senior Study Centre and the New Science building.
Teacher Advisors, Support staff, Classroom Teachers and Year Level Team Leaders would love to see as many parents and students in attendance as possible.
Interview times will be booked using the Xuno online booking system.
In addition to making bookings with classroom teachers, parents are encouraged to book an interview time with your child’s TA to discuss progress with Learning Goals established early in the year with each student.
WHOLE SCHOOL APPROACH TO CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
We have now been using our Whole School Approach to Classroom Management for two years and we have seen some really positive changes in our classrooms. The classrooms are calmer and more settled, and students have found the system to be simple, fair and consistently implemented by all staff members in every classroom for every Year Level.
The Whole School Approach is centred on the School Wide Positive Behaviour program. We have been implementing this over the past couple of years, in that, we continue to reward positive behaviour, as well as incorporating the teaching of positive behaviours into our curriculum plans, to encourage students to display actions that promote a positive learning environment for all.
Congratulations to Achol Ajack , Shakira Liddy and Jack Rumbold who each won Village cinema vouchers at the school assembly last Friday. The whole school draw is held each term. Students can join the draw automatically by redeeming their reward tickets at school. The rewards are redeemable during lunchtime near the library.
In addition to the way we support the positive behaviours in the school, the way negative behaviours are addressed follows a consistent approach by all staff that is clearly understood by all students. A brief summary of this is as follows:
- 1st offence of negative behaviour: Warning by placing the student’s name on the board
- 2nd offence of negative behaviour: Staying back after class for a short chat with the teacher to discuss the behaviour. This is indicated by placing a cross next to the student’s name.
- 3rd offence of negative behaviour: Lunchtime detention indicated by placing another cross next to the student’s name.
- 4th offence of negative behaviour: Removal from class into another teacher’s classroom.
This system gives students several opportunities to stop, adjust their behaviour and avoid a further escalation of consequences.
Students that are unsure as to why they have got their name on the board or received a cross have the opportunity to discuss this with a teacher during a quiet time in class.
This process has been explained in detail to all of our new Year 7 students as well as being reinforced with students at all other Year Levels in their Year Level Meetings.
Full documentation on all of our Student Engagement initiatives, including how we implement School Wide Positive Behaviour Support can be found in our Student Engagement Policy on our new website . Further questions on this policy can be directed to Kimberley Tempest.
