Naidoc Week 2nd - 9th July 2023
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
At Greenhills we acknowledge and celebrate NAIDOC Week because it is an important opportunity for learning, connection and community. And it’s a chance for everyone, not just First Nations people, to celebrate all aspects of First Nations histories and cultures. NAIDOC Week is an important time to reflect on the challenges faced by First Nations people and to look at how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go.
At Greenhills, we are making steps to build a more inclusive community that acknowledges and promotes acceptance and differences. We recognise the strength of First Nations people and communities, and we hope that you can join us in supporting a more harmonious community.

Our Indigenous Action Team has been working with Emma Bamblett and the Wurundjeri council to identify language and symbols that can become part of our everyday life. This team has also worked within classrooms this week to help develop our students' understandings of Naidoc Week. As we develop a stronger sense of culture and connection to country, we anticipate that we will better recognise the history and strength of the oldest living culture.
