Around the Classes - Year 2

School Arrivals
Class starts promptly at 8.40am. To avoid disruptions to student’s learning could you please ensure your child is at school on time.
The school gates open each morning at 8.15am.
Religious Education
During Term 3, students will explore the concept of forgiveness and healing and what this means in the students' lives. They will investigate these concepts through different scripture stories. Students will celebrate the Feast of Saint Mary MacKillop and the Assumption of Mary. They will explore why these are important celebrations in Australia and the church.
Literacy
Students will continue to participate in a variety of activities that will develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating.
Reading
In Reading, students will participate in a variety of activities to meet their needs including:
- Reading orally with fluency and expression
- Making connections to self, to text and to world
- Re-reading and summarising texts
- Comparing and contrasting between two different texts
- Developing reading comprehension skills, such as: making inferences and identifying the author's purpose
Writing
In writing students will participate in a variety of activities to meet their needs including:
- Weekly spelling sound (SMART Spelling)
- Handwriting focusing on correct letter formation and positioning
- Compound and complex sentences
- Using nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs
- Editing skills
Speaking and listening
Through a variety of activities such as: oral responses in class, roleplay and oral presentations students will further develop the following skills:
- Audible voice
- Clear articulation
- Confident presentation
- Focused listening
- Questioning
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students will develop an understanding of mathematical concepts and fluency with processes. They will be able to pose and solve problems and reason in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability.

Inquiry
CONNECTIONS: Through Generations
Students will learn about the lives of people in the past as they interview a person from an older generation. They will learn words to describe events in the past, present, and future and words to describe a point of view. Students will consider the importance of places to people in their community and people from different cultures. They will learn about sequences and different ways that stories from the past can be told.
The Resilience Project
Students will participate in lessons with detailed instructions, resources and learning intentions and a focus on one of The Resilience Project key pillars of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy each week.
