The students will work through various bush skills that will help them in future outdoor adventures. Outdoor Education teacher Lauren Stranger will be accompanying the students along with the classroom teachers and other support staff. Students will need to wear warm suitable clothing, bring an extra jumper (e.g fleece or wool, not cotton), beanie, gloves, hat, waterproof raincoat, keep cup for a milo, lunch, snacks and water bottle. No lunch orders on this day. We will be leaving school at 9.00am and returning at about 3.00pm.

Morris Reading Event - Tasmanian Premier’s Reading Challenge

At Friends’, we strive to foster a lifelong love of reading. With personal choice and a relaxed environment, reading for information and for pleasure is enjoyable, and has ongoing benefits for our students’ emotional, social, academic and physical wellbeing.

To encourage our students to read more, Prep - Year 6 are joining in the Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC), which starts this week and runs until Friday 1 September. At Friends’, our PRC focus is on time spent reading and making it enjoyable rather than the number of books read. Our students are asked to set a Twenties Goal for the 10 weeks of the Reading Challenge. A "Twenty" is one 20 minute reading session, and “reading” includes listening to others read, shared reading and time spent enjoying illustrations.

You can find an overview for parents here and our PRC student site is here. Students will be given a booklet and bookmark this week, but they can also choose a different method of recording their Twenties. If you wish you had more time to read, we encourage you to join in and do the challenge too. The google site has handy hints to help you along! Thank you for all you do to foster your child’s love of reading at home and at school. Please feel free to get in touch with us at any time, Sharon Ryan and Catherine Duffett Morris Teacher-Librarians.

Winter Wellness for Parents of Young Children

The cooler months bring colds, the flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses. That’s why being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family.

Prepare:

Flu can be serious for young children. Children are most likely to catch and spread the flu and young children may become unwell. We encourage your child to receive their annual flu vaccine. This will boost their immunity against most likely circulating flu strains and help stop them getting very sick.

Plan:

If your child is at higher risk of becoming very sick from the flu, COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses, make a plan with your healthcare provider for when your child becomes sick.

Protect:

Protect others, especially those at risk of severe illness, by keeping your child home if they’re unwell, encouraging regular hand washing, and covering coughs and sneezes.
