If you have a child who will be commencing Foundation at Roberts McCubbin PS in 2024, or know of a friend/relative/associate who is considering joining our wonderful community, enrolments for the 2024 school year are currently open.
Early enrolments greatly assist us in important planning decisions, particularly in preparing our staffing requirements. Fortnightly tours have been held throughout this term and will continue throughout term 3.
We had some very excited little visitors this week as a group of students (including some familiar faces!) walked up the hill from Box Hill South Kindergarten to participate in some activities in 3J. Thank you to Mrs James and the students of 3J for being so welcoming and doing such a great job of looking after our junior guests during their visit. We look forward to lots of the group joining our Foundation classes next year.
While I welcome you to stay on this page to read my sparkling reflections, there are a number of great things to read about on the What's Happening and the new Numeracy page that we'd love you to have a look at! The new Numeracy page this week features some information for doing maths at home, as well as some information in line with our philosophies of how students learn mathematics.
Thank you to all families for supporting our student-free day today. We understand that these days can place additional pressures on families in organising care for your children.
In the 2022 Enterprise Bargaining Agreement covering staff employed by the Department of Education, provision was made for a student free day to facilitate "Professional Practice", which has been the focus of today.
Teaching teams within our school work within an approach known as 'Professional Learning Communities'. Teams undertake inquiry cycles looking at student learning data and undertaking professional learning to work out how to improve learning based on this data. The weekly teaching program that students then experience is planned collaboratively, again with a focus on addressing learning needs related to identifiable data.
Today, teams are looking broadly at teaching and learning approaches and priorities that will guide classroom practice throughout term 3.
As discussed in the previous newsletter, the Victorian School Building Authority have agreed to rectify the lack of effective heating in the building that runs along Devon Street. I am pleased to report that a company has now been appointed to carry out the work, with a site visit scheduled next week to discuss the next steps.
On June 15th the students will be participating in a special event, Campfire Conversations. This engaging day is designed to introduce students to the rich heritage of our Indigenous culture and foster meaningful discussions about our past and our journey forward.
Please refer to "What's Happening" for further information.
