An opportunity to support your families
The Australian Government has established the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) to provide free home internet for 12 months for up to 30,000 families with school aged children who do not currently have a National Broadband Network (NBN) connection at home.
The department is supporting the Australian Government’s SSBI by becoming a nominating organisation to help identify eligible families within the NT to boost education opportunities and narrow the digital divide.
The SSBI eligibility criteria includes:
- having a child living at home that is enrolled in an Australian school in 2023
- not having an active NBN internet service at home. Having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility
- living in a premises that can access the NBN via a standard connection. This will be validated by NBN Co. We have been informed island communities are out of scope of the SSBI.
Families can nominate themselves for the SSBI and the process to do so will be distributed through schools. Families need to nominate and register (if eligible) before 30 September 2023.
What do you need to do?
Support the SSBI by sharing key information and vouchers with families by appointing a champion from your school to help coordinate the distribution of information to families.
Send your champion’s details to digitalanddata.doe@education.nt.gov.au before 11 August 2023.
