First Eucharist Preparation Activities led by Gen Bryant and her Ministry Team

Thank you to the families and First Communicants who attended the workshop evening on Thursday, June 22nds last term. The workshop was led by the Gen Bryant Ministry Team and involved learning about the parts of the Mass and the tradition of the Eucharist. All present were fortunate enough to hear Gen and her team members Alex and Monty speak and perform live music for the occasion.

Throughout the same school day Gen and her team also led a range of learning activities for all Year Three and Four students, with a particular focus on preparing to receive the Sacrament for First Eucharist for those who are preparing. All students and staff were lucky enough to enjoy a whole school concert by Gen and her team in the afternoon with many in attendance at the sessions joining in with the singing and dancing too.

Social Justice Action Team News

The SJAT worked in partnership with the Mini Vinnies teams from St Brendan’s, St Joseph’s and St Mary’s to support the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Thank you to all of the families who were able to contribute to the appeal by donating non-perishable food items. The response was overwhelming in a wonderful way and the SJAT Team certainly had their work ‘cut out’ for them in packing and sorting the items for collection by Bill, a volunteer from the Western Port Conference at St Vincent de Paul. It was wonderful to receive the following note of thanks from volunteers, Tom & Maree Leyden, which teachers have read to their classes. This initiative really has put Catholic Social Teaching into immediate, meaningful and impactful action at the local level for our students.

“ The Western Port Conference of Saint Vincent de Paul extends our thanks to all parents, students and teachers for their outstanding support for our recent non perishable food drive for those in need in our Community.  Our storage cupboard was very low prior to the recent school holidays and now thanks to your support we now have a full cupboard to provide food for those in need”.

Caritas Water For All Project

You may notice that staff at St Brendan’s often coordinate their outfits on Thursdays and special days at school. This is likely due to their participation in Staff Dress Code Days. On these days, staff members are invited to dress in a particular theme or scheme (eg, spots, stripes etc) and to donate to a cause or global project. Last term, a total of $135.80 was contributed and forwarded to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. This term, contributions to the Staff Dress Code tin will be directed to the Caritas Water for All project.  Find out more about this wonderful project here. Can you guess what the Staff Dress Code will be this week?

Catholic Baptism

For families considering The Sacrament of Catholic Baptism for their child/ren, please contact the Western Port Parish Centre on (03) 5979 4374. Should you make Baptism arrangements with the Parish, please inform me so that this special milestone for your child can be acknowledged within the school community. Please also forward a copy of your child’s Baptism Certificate to the school so that this can be reflected in the school records.

Families who wish for their children to receive any sacrament or The Rite of Reception through the parish, have been requested by Fr Shymon to make timely arrangements, as adequate preparation is required. This is especially important when families wish to enroll in school sacramental preparation programs, such as First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.
