Parent Info Session - Understanding the IB

Thursday 15 June 

This Term we will be offering a Parent Information Session - ‘Understanding the IB and how learning occurs through inquiry’. This session will be held on Thursday 15 June at 9.00am in the Boa Vista Room, adjacent to The Quaker Meeting House. Tea and coffee will be provided from 8.40am.

Year 5 Excursion - Salvation Army Citadel

Friday 16 June

On Friday 16 June Year 5 students are going on an excursion to the Salvation Army Citadel on Elizabeth Street. This excursion aims to provide them with a valuable experience learning about service, empathy, and the importance of helping others in our community. We will depart from school at 9.00am and walk to the Salvation Army Citadel on Elizabeth street where students will be divided into groups and participate in three service rotations. 

 

These rotations will involve engaging in activities that promote understanding, compassion, and the value of service to others. At the conclusion of these activities we will walk to Soundy Park for lunch and games that emphasize the importance of empathy and community.

 

We will return to school at 12.40pm. Please ensure your child arrives at school on time so that we can depart promptly at 9.00am. Students need a packed lunch, snacks and a labelled water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. No lunch orders on this day please.

 

Students should wear sports uniform and comfortable walking shoes. Additionally, it would be advisable to pack a waterproof jacket in case of rain.

Years 5 and 6 Growing Up Program

Monday 19  -  Friday 23 June

Growing Up – a relationships, sexuality and protective behaviours program, will be run by Family Planning Tasmania starting on Monday 19 June. Please find attached a copy of the program. For information about talking to your child about relationships, sexuality and puberty see this publication from the Department of Health.  By clicking on the link below, parents will be able to access information about their child/children’s program as well as ask any questions via the Parent and Carer Contact form.  The Growing Up Program (GUP) for Parents/Carers - Family Planning Tasmania.

Kindergarten - Earthcare Excursions to Taroona Beach 

Mondays 19 and 26 June

We are looking forward to visiting Taroona Beach on Mondays 19 and 26 June. We will be leaving school by bus by 11.40 am and will return by 2.30 pm. Please remember that on these days, children will need a spare change of clothes (labelled with their names), gum boots, a rubbish free lunch, and to be dressed appropriately for the weather forecast. 

Year 4 Outdoor Education Excursion - Risdon Brook Dam

Wednesday 21 June -New Date 

On Wednesday 21 June, Year 4 students will be going on an Outdoor Education excursion to Risdon Brook Dam as part of their Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time. Students will be exploring the concept of settlement and the nature of European arrival in Van Diemen's Land. 

 

We will depart school at 9.00am and return to school by 3.00pm. Students should wear sports uniform on this day, but will need to bring a warm jumper, their school jacket, beanie and a raincoat as it could be very cold. As we will be away from school for most of the day, students will need to bring a large packed lunch, snacks and drink from home. No lunch orders on this day. Personal medications such as asthma puffers will be needed also. Please ensure Operoo details are up to date.   

 

We would appreciate some Year 4 parent helpers to join us at Risdon Brook Dam from approximately 9.30am - 2.00pm. If you are free on that day and would be willing to help small groups, please contact your class teacher: Denise, Emily and/or Katie by Friday 16 June. You will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Year 5 Outdoor Education Excursion - The Lea Scout Centre

Friday 23 June

On Friday 23 June, as part of our Outdoor Education program, all Year 5 students will be visiting The Lea Scout Centre. Our focus is on teaching resilience, that is built from empathy, mindfulness and gratitude and is about adapting to change, managing disappointment, overcoming obstacles and setbacks and overcoming adversity. The students will work through various bush skills that will help them in future outdoor adventures. Outdoor Education teacher Lauren Stranger will be accompanying the students along with the classroom teachers and other support staff. Students will need to wear warm suitable clothing, bring an extra jumper (E.g fleece, not cotton), beanie, gloves, hat, waterproof raincoat, keep cup for a milo, lunch, snacks and water bottle. No lunch orders on this day. We will be leaving school at 9.00am and returning at about 3.00pm. 

Year 5 - SASS 'Safe, Smart Kids' educational program

Tuesday 13 June

A program for Year 5 students is currently being run by the Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS). The SASS 'Safe, Smart Kids' primary school student educational program aims to empower children to understand that their bodies are their own, equip them to make positive, ethical choices with regards to their intimate relationships, and ultimately to stop intimate partner violence and sexual harm from occurring within our communities. A thorough understanding of affirmative consent underpins all age appropriate content.

Physical Education lessons for Year 5 and 6 

Monday 5 June - Wednesday 5 July

During Weeks 7-11 PE lessons, all students in Year 5 and 6 will travel by bus to Kingborough Gymnastics Centre for gymnastics sessions. The bus will leave school at 12.00pm on their PE day and return by 2.00pm. Please note that in Week 7 only Year 5 will go and, due to the long weekend, in Week 8 only Year 6 will go. JSSATIS Cross Country

Thursday 15 June

The JSSATIS Cross Country will be held on Thursday 15 June at Rokeby Police Academy. Selected students from Year 3-6 will travel by bus leaving school at 10.30am and returning by 2.45pm. Any enquiries please contact Anthony Edwards or call 6210 2228.

Year 3 Excursion - Grote Reber Museum, Cambridge 

Friday 16 June

Year 3 students will be visiting the Grote Reber Museum in Cambridge on Friday 16  June. We will depart school at 11.30am and return to school by 1.45pm. Students will participate in a guided tour of the observatory including a close-up look at the "big dish" and a visit to the control room. There will be time to explore the Museum which celebrates the work of the first radio astronomer: Grote Reber, and viewing short mini movies about space. This will connect our prior unit about communication and the way it impacted on the way people and society is shaped in the past and present; and our current inquiry which is investigating the way cultures explain phenomena and the scientific reasoning behind phenomena, particularly the stars, sun and moon phases. Part of the tour will be outside so please pack a warm jacket and or raincoat.
