Visual Art Update

Well what a fantastic term we’ve had in Visual Art! Your TOTALLY AMAZING children have continued to raise the bar for themselves, higher and higher this year. Our big push for everyone to practice a ‘Growth Mindset’ has yielded amazing results. Isaac says “I couldn’t draw very well before but I kept practising and I’m better at it now.” Eva says “You just keep practising…and then you get better!”. Hudson says “I can’t wait to start drawing today!”. All of these attitudes show the really strong Growth Mindset behaviours we value at Macedon Primary and our students demonstrate daily, how strongly they have embraced these values in their daily learning, with terrific results.

Next term we begin an exciting unit of Collage. We will investigate the fabulous South Australian collage artist, Sue Dowse and have a go at completing a portrait in her style (SEND IN THOSE MAGAZINES FRIENDS). Sue describes collage as “Painting with paper”. We will also explore the collage of Henri Matisse, who came to collage late in life. Please feel free to send in any unused wrapping paper, old cards or writing paper, magazines or even old books that might be ready to be cut up for use in the art room.

Have a wonderful holiday break and have plenty of drawing paper at the ready, to pounce when the children say “I’m SO BORED!”. My first reply to my babies when they said that was always “Do a drawing until you think of something to do!”. Many long afternoons were spent in reflective thought, whilst mini masterpieces were being produced.
