Sustainability Update

Darebin Fruit Squad

The Darebin Fruit Squad is looking for residents who have extra home-grown food/fruit to share. The Squad will harvest excess fruit from backyards and properties all over Darebin and surrounding suburbs and share it with people in Darebin experiencing food insecurity.

They are looking for more people who want to donate their excess fruit. If you are interested, see the attached poster, or contact them for more information (9480 8207; fruitsquad@divrs.org.au).

Darebin Hard Rubbish Heroes

Darebin Hard Rubbish Heroes is a not-for-profit community group that promotes and supports reuse, repair and repurposing (upcycling) of preloved items through education and events.

The Heroes are running a pop-up shop during June and July to help rescue and rehome preloved items and reduce landfill during Darebin Council's hard waste winter collection. The pop-up has heaps of great free things – such as art and craft material for kids and for adults! And there are also lots of free and low-priced household items. The pop-up is volunteer run, and proceeds support running costs, future events, and local charities.

To find out more, see the attached poster and check out their website.

Fairfield Village Campaign – Plastic Free July

Fairfield Village is running a Plastic Free July campaign and the local community is encouraged to support the cause to avoid plastic waste. Bring your reusable bags and keep cups to the shops, and look out for the businesses who have just signed up to have their soft plastics recycled with Reground.

Follow Fairfield Village on Facebook or Instagram to stayed tuned for a Plastic Free July street competition and also for updates about what your favourite businesses are doing to celebrate Plastic Free July 2023.

In term three, FPS will also recognise and encourage students to support the Plastic Free July campaign. More details will follow next term.
