Book Covering Helpers Needed
We have just received hundreds of Decodable Classroom Reader books to assist children in the process of learning to read. Before they can be used they do need to be covered. If you are willing to take some books home to cover please contact the office to arrange collection of some of these books and the pre-cut contact.

Kindergarten - Friendly Schools Program
As part of our Friendly Schools Program, children in Kindergarten are learning the value and importance of sharing. Children are taking turns in sharing a very special teddy called, Snugglebug.
All children in Kindergarten will have the opportunity to take Snugglebug home for the night. Already, Snugglebug has enjoyed so many new adventures like going to the park to play soccer, eating Sushi for dinner and snuggling into bed for a bedtime story. Back at school, the children share their stories about Snugglebug and the wonderful adventures they had together.
World Bee Day
SJB celebrated World Bee Day last Friday 20 May 2022.
“We have only one heart, and the same wretchedness which leads us to mistreat an animal will not be long in showing itself in our relationships with other people. Every act of cruelty towards any creature is contrary to human dignity.” Pope Francis Laudato Si’ n 92
Our bee population is declining for many reasons: the use of insecticides in our homes, the clearing of native vegetation which removes habitat and food for bees, the use of agricultural chemicals, their susceptibility to pests and diseases, and climate change. Unfortunately, these factors work in combination and affect bees and many other animals that are also pollinators.
All students participated in a variety of activities, see Year 2 below.
School Uniform
From Monday 24 May all students are required to wear the full winter uniform.
Items available from the school office are as follows:
Legionnaire Hat: $16
Slouch Hat: $20
Girls Tab Ties: $9
Boys Ties: $20
Lunch Bags - $8
School Bags: $40
EFTPOS is the preferred payment option.
Edmund Rice Band
On Wednesday we welcomed the Edmund Rice School band to our school. Their performance was enjoyed by all who attended (Years 2-6). The students especially enjoyed guessing the songs played and dancing to the music.
Thankyou to the ERC staff and students for sharing their musical talents with us.
National Simultaneous Storytime - Family Tree - Wednesday 25 May
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 22nd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
By facilitating NSS we aim to:
- promote the value of reading and literacy,
- promote the value and fun of books,
- promote an Australian writer and publisher,
- promote story time activities in libraries and communities around the country
Here are some pictures of SJB students and staff sharing Family Tree by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh.
Walk Safely to School Day
St Joseph's celebrated and acknowledged 'Walk Safely to School' today. This is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport, and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children.
Thank you for all that participated. It was a lovely sense of community!
We need a hand! Time to get involved and volunteer just a bit of your time.
