From the Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Welcome to Week 5.

As the term progresses we are slowly getting back into the routines we were familiar with, and saying farewell to others. As I spoke about in the last edition, Whole School Assemblies are back in the gym. Next week, Thursday June 9,  we will be hosted by our Year 3 cohort who will share with us some of their work and experiences from this term. All are welcome to join us. Class Masses will recommence at the church with parents invited when their child's class celebrates. Parents and carers are welcome back on site and into the classrooms, with masks being optional. Please do not enter the school if you are feeling unwell.

The Board will be presented with updated costings for our next stage of development at its next meeting later this month. Unfortunately, we are not immune to the cost blowouts being felt within the building sector. A 30% increase in costs means a rise of over 1 million dollars from the initial estimates for our project. Whilst the current prices won't stop the project, there will be an impact upon its scope. I will circulate an updated plan once it has been finalised.

Our Reception intake for 2023 is filling fast. If you have friends or family interested in sending their child to St Gabriel's, please ask them to make contact with the office ASAP.

Children are not supposed to be playing after school. Once dismissed, students are to make their way to one of the gates or OSHC.  Please remind your child that once their teacher releases them, they should make their way promptly to the appropriate location.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is celebrated across Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey- the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum, which saw 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Commonwealth the power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torrens  Strait Islander peoples and recognise them in in the national census  and the High Court Mabo decision, which legally recognised that Aboriginal and Torrens Strait Islander peoples have a special relationship to the land. These help us be people of justice and reconciliation as we move together to make change for the better.
