Principal's news

Dear Parents

Reverend Father George Adamakis presided over his last Service at Sts Anargiri Parish last weekend. He will continue teaching Orthodox Studies until the end of this term. Our School is looking forward to hosting a farewell assembly for Father George who has provided outstanding spiritual leadership and mentorship to our School community as Chaplain during the final week of this term.

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios has appointed Reverend Father Stavros Kakavas as the presiding Parish Priest of Sts Anargiri and consequently as School Chaplain of Oakleigh Grammar. We look forward to welcoming Father Kakavas to our School community and will embrace him with love and respect and wish him well as an important member of our community.

In order to maintain our strong leadership of Orthodox Studies, I wish to advise that Mr Dean Damatopoulos has been appointed as Acting Learning Leader – Orthodox Christian Studies. Mr Damatopoulos is well credentialled and experienced in the discipline of Orthodox Studies and will provide good mentorship and guidance to our staff, students and incoming Chaplain.

Consequently, Mr Damatopoulos will relinquish his coordination role of Years 6 and 7. I am pleased to advise Mr Jason Shulman, who is a highly experienced educator having worked in a range of different styles of schools, has been appointed Acting Years 6 and 7 Year Level Coordinator. Both positions will commence at the commencement of Term 3 until the end of the 2022 school year. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Damatopoulos for his care, passion and commitment to his pastoral role of responsibility over the past six years.

Parents’ Association

I am most grateful to our Parents’ Association for their outstanding contribution to both friend and fundraising this year. To date, an impressive $10,000 has been raised in favour of our School and students this year. We are excited to announce the funds will be used for the purchase of piano keyboards, drones, marquees for sporting events, vinyl house banners and house points boards.

Staff News

My best wishes are extended to the following staff who will be leaving us at the end of this term:

Mrs Anna Lewis, Business Manager; Reverend Father George Adamakis, School Chaplain; Ms Kseniya Subach, HR Officer (10 June); and Mrs Navita Gupta, ELC Teacher (4 June).

Business Manager Appointment

I am pleased to advise of the appointment of Mr Tim Grandy as Business Manager commencing 11 August 2022.

Over the past nine years, Tim has had Business Manager experience at Yesodei Ha Torah College in Melbourne and prior to that, at Prince of Peace Lutheran College in Brisbane. He clearly possesses the knowledge and skills to see our School continue to build infrastructure, services and community in order to provide a quality education for our students.

I take this opportunity to thank Mrs Anna Lewis who has undertaken her role as Business Manager with great professionalism and commitment to ensure the stability and ongoing financial management of our School. I wish Anna all the very best for the future.

I take this opportunity in this final edition of Grammar News for term two to wish all families a happy, safe and relaxing term break and look forward to welcoming all students back on Tuesday 12 July.

God Bless
