Term 2 Week 2 Snapshot

Welcome to Week Two Home Learning

The Grade 4 team was very happy with how Week One of Home Learning transpired. Students engaged extremely well with the tasks. They showed resilience, persistence, initiative and were open minded.

As each day went by, together, we ironed out some problems and became more efficient as a whole cohort.

We would like to thank all of you for your amazing support and effort to assist your children in these trying circumstances.

Good luck for Week Two.

Below is the list of optional activities, which we have tried to ensure are open-ended, inquiry based and hands-on.

English

The tasks for the week will be posted daily on Google Classroom. An overview of tasks for reading and writing this week are as follows:

READING

Students should be completing at least 20 minutes of independent reading a day as well as completing the tasks set by the teacher.

  • Creating a book review
  • Following the instructions of a procedural text
  • Identifying language features of procedural texts
  • Analysing the effectiveness of procedural texts

WRITING

Writing tasks for week two include:

  • Brainstorming ideas for Procedural texts
  • Utilising  verbs, adverbs and adverbial phrases in procedural texts
  • Identifying Procedural language
  • Writing Procedural texts

From the start of the term we will be writing procedural texts. We encourage students to use the writing cycle when writing to ensure they are continuously developing their writing.

The writing cycle consists of five stages:

1. Plan

2. Draft

3. Edit.

4. Revise

5. Publish

Note: Not all pieces need to be published. We encourage the students to write many different writing pieces which they revise and edit. At the end of a unit of work we ask students to choose their best piece to publish.

Mathematics

The tasks for the week will be posted daily on Google Classroom. In Mathematics, students will continue to explore the topic of data. Students will:

  • Evaluate what makes a data display effective
  • Research data displays online linked to our UOI on technology
  • Collect data and choose an appropriate graph to display their information
  • Compare data displays
