SENIOR SCHOOL

SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

It has been a great couple of weeks for our VCE leaders to shine! Our Captains facilitated a very detailed and ‘jam-packed’ assembly on the 27th February to the whole school for the first time this year, and they have already proven themselves to be excellent public speakers.

On the first Friday of each month a group of dedicated volunteers run a Community Dinner at the Parish Hall in Korumburra from 5.30 pm to 7pm. On the 6th March, Ashley Mostert, Kaylah Thomas and I attended this dinner upon invitation from Mr Terry Waycott who was the community member on our selection panel to decide our 2020 captains. And it was delightful! Kayla was the evening’s entertainment; singing to a crowd of around 60 people, and impressing us all. Ash greeted guests and helped with name tags and sat with a number of people to introduce himself and chat about his experiences as school captain.

It was so impressive to see community members preparing food, cooking, the set up  of the tables and hearing about all the interesting  and varied musical acts who attend; all on a volunteer basis. The Community Dinners are run with the support of the Anglican minister Fran Grimes, the Salvation Army, St Vinnies, the Lions Club and many other individual volunteers – and all are welcome! I look forward to attending again in future months.

The South Gippsland group of Secondary Colleges - KSC, LSC, MNSC, WSC & FCS - have formed a very productive alliance between the school captains, Senior School Leaders and Principals. Last Wednesday was the second Synergy Breakfast held for school captains and this time it was hosted by Wonthaggi Secondary College at their (impressive) new McKenzie Street Senior Campus. Marg O’Donnell had the leaders working through a number of scenarios and ideas about their vision of leadership in 2020, their goals for whole school and reflecting on some of the leaders who have inspired them thus far. It was so great to see our confident leaders; Cayli, Kaylah & Andrea interacting and communicating so positively with their South Gippsland peers.

We wish them all well for their leadership journey this year J
