Mountain Biking Buzz

Cycling has had a huge couple of weeks for SPC with Tom Stockwell placing 2nd in the U19 SA State Championships last weekend.

This is a huge effort as Tom has moved up a class to the bigger hitters of Under 19 since last year, so is holding his own against much older riders. This is a fantastic effort from Tom and it will be exciting to see if he can make it to a World Cup at some stage in the future like Old Saint, Ryan Standish who raced in the Red Bull Cross Country Short Track recently with those that are amongst the best in the world of MTB.

There is an ever-building buzz as the BMX NT Titles approach at a great rate of knots. Many of our students and parents travelled to Tennant Creek last weekend for Round 6 in the NT Series on a brand-new track which sounded amazing but nothing like home here in Alice with Round 7 of the NT Series on Wednesday this week as a warmup for Friday and Saturday.

The BMX NT Titles are here in Alice Springs this weekend and many of our riders have been training for this event for the majority of the last year. Some will defend their NT number plates, but many will chase and fight it out over the weekend with more than 200 riders from all over the Territory and interstate.

Some students will be racing in super classes where there are some big cash prizes up for grabs! Come and support the riders while they test their speed and courage against the best in the Territory on Friday and Saturday.

We have also been making progress on our College MTB Trail in the last week with students from Community Service, and Years 7, 8 and 9 Outdoor Education and even some of our boy boarders. It is so great to see what we can do when we have many hands-on deck and we are looking forward to the final stages of development in Term 4.
