From the Principal

Matt Dowell

Principal

I would like to whole-heartedly congratulate our fantastic Year 12's on their achievements as many of them wind up this week and finalise their course requirements. It is usually a sprint to the finish line and it has been a privilege to observe the dedication, effort and hard work that all of our 12's have put in to meet their targets and finish on a high note. Our ATAR 12's have completed their Semester 2 exams and will now start preparing for their WACE exams scheduled for early next term and I wish them all the best as they break for the next 2 weeks to prepare and study from home.

It was a pleasure to join the 12's for dinner on Tuesday night down at the Club. We had a great turnout of staff and it was a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy each others company in a relaxed environment.

This week is an emotional week for many as the pressure to complete all outstanding work and the reality of leaving school and transitioning into the next phase of life becomes apparent.  The beauty of attending Cunderdin Ag is that our students make lifelong mates and connections and many will stay in touch well beyond school.

Congratulations to Charlotte Crossen, Jack Waters and Jack Read who have all been nominated for this year’s SCSA Awards for Outstanding Achievement in VET.

Associate Principal Role

Our Associate Principal, Jo Moffat has accepted a position at Safety Bay SHS which she will commence as of Week 3 next term. I am in the process of backfilling the role and will update you early next term.

NAIDOC Week & New Acknowledgement of Country Signage

During the previous school holidays it was NAIDOC Week. This is an important week for us to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

Our new sign acknowledging that we are living and learning on Nyoongar Ballardong country has recently been installed and is proudly located at the entrance of the College. A photo of this sign is on the cover of this edition of the Chatter.

I would like to acknowledge the traditional land owners, the Nyoongar Ballardong people, pay my respects to elders past present and emerging.

Principal's Position

I am pleased to inform you that I have been extended in the Principal's role for the remainder of the year while the Department run the process for the re-established Director of Agriculture role that substantive Principal, Sally Panizza is currently acting in. I will keep you posted on when this role is advertised.

Happy Holidays

Wishing all of our staff, students and families a fantastic and well-deserved break. Enjoy the footy and some family time and I look forward to seeing those who are returning in Term 4 following the break.
