NAIDOC  Week

The NAIDOC 2021 theme – Heal Country! – calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, waters, sacred sites and cultural heritage.

Unfortunately community events were cancelled this year due to covid, however we were able to acknowledge the importance of country for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in stage groups.

Primary - participated in Indigenous Games during sport on Wednesday. Thankyou to Mrs Hodges for organising these activities.

Stage 4 - participated in a science lesson with Mrs Griffen about animals based on their indigenous names. Students learnt about Gugaa (goanna) Yaba (snake) and were excited to learn that the Wiradjuri word for a bilby is bilbi and a wombat is wombad.

Stage 5 - Stage 5 students read ‘Coming Home to Country’ by Bronwyn Bancroft and discussed the visual and lyrical depictions of country- Run to the creek, perch on a rock, slip into clear crystal water. They collaboratively completed a puzzle of an artwork by Bronwyn Bancroft.

Campus - participated in indigenous games and researched a past and present elder from the community.
