Junior Softball

Our Junior softball girls concluded their season on Wednesday afternoon with some brilliant gameplay from all three teams. Each of our teams improved with every game and with that their enthusiasm, energy and self-belief. Well done to all girls who participated so well and represented the College brilliantly with their gameplay and spirit, both on and off the field of play. All in all, it was a very successful season and once again thanks to our Head Coach, Jo Rogers for leading the coaching team and developing our girl’s knowledge, skills and love of the game.

Final results:
9A           4th overall
8A           2nd overall
8B           Tie for 1st (this was a social competition so no pennants awarded)

Senior Softball

Pre-season Training has commenced this week with our senior softball girls. A number of our Year 9 girls will continue with their softball training as they join the senior ranks in 2022. Numbers are quite strong however with a few more girls we should be able to field two very strong teams. Any girls who are wanting to be involved in Senior softball need to put their name up on the list on the Croc Board and attend the two training sessions each week. Please see the College app for full training details.

AFL

The girls have now had three sessions with the Qld AFL coaches and are looking the part and developing their skills and game knowledge already. Next week we have the Tuesday training session at CC followed by the first of two Gala Days on Friday afternoon. Currently, the girls are scheduled to play at Sherwood Magpie’s AFL Club in Chelmer from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm.

QG Cricket

Cricket has commenced this week however numbers have been down due to the clash with Junior Softball fixtures. Any girls wishing to play cricket need to sign-up on the Croc Board and attend the two training sessions each week. A few more girls are needed across both Junior and Senior divisions to ensure we have a team in each for 2022. All girls are welcome to come along and try this sport if they have never played before. Please keep up to date with training and any changes via the College app.

QG Swimming

Swimming has recommenced in an effort to get girls back into the water to stay fit and recommence training in preparation for next year’s QG event. Girls from Year 6 to 11 are invited to attend and training is offered from 6:30 am – 7:45 am from Monday to Thursday. Full details of training and preliminary information about next year’s swim camp can be found on the College app.

CC Running Club

The new CC running club commenced last week and will continue again on Friday morning, 6:45 am – 7:45 am at Kalinga Park. There are two sessions each week, Monday at the College and Friday at Kalinga Park. These sessions are for all those wishing to just get or remain fit or commence their cross-country training early. Girls MUST sign-up for the Friday session on the Croc board by 1:30 pm each Thursday to ensure we have the transport required to bring all girls back at the end of training. Students must be dropped at Kalinga Park by private transport. Full details of the training times and days can be found on the weekly training schedule posted on the College App and Croc Board.

Sports Awards Dinner

The annual Sports Award Dinner will be held on Wednesday 17 November at Ruggers, 103 Crosby Rd, Albion in the Jacaranda Room. The event is a capped capacity event; therefore, one parent/family member per family can book to attend to ensure all award recipients are there on the night. Once all awardees are catered for, the remaining tickets will be open for others to attend. Timing for the event is from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm and will include pre-dinner drinks.

The format of the night is as follows:

5:30 – 5:50 pm Pre-dinner drinks, raffle sales, photos
5:50 – 6:00 pm Seating inside the venue
6:00 – 9:00 pm Awards, 2-course meal, guest speaker, raffle prize draws and cake for dessert.

Only Parents/Caregivers from each family of a student who is receiving an award will be able to attend due to the capped capacity of this event. Final student invites will go out Thursday afternoon to ensure all award recipients have the opportunity to purchase their tickets. We are truly sorry the event cannot be opened to all who wish to attend and would request that all those who have received an email book their tickets early. All remaining seats, if any will be on offer via an email to all and will be awarded on a first in basis.

This week our girls have had the opportunity to vote on the QGSSSA sportswoman for the year for each grade. To be eligible girls need to have participation and good standing in four or more QGSSSA sports in the current year and meet the Commitment requirement of 85% attendance at training and 100% at fixtures in at least 2 sports. For girls that did meet this criteria, girls and sports staff then voted on the following two criteria.

  1. Skills, ability and achievements in each of the QGSSSA sports in which the student participates (coaches / coordinators / HHWS)
  2. Exemplary attitude and effort, including support for team (Year level student votes and coaches/coordinators/HHWS)

The final decision for each QGSSSA Sports woman of the year will be made by a panel of staff including the HHWS (Ms. Barnes), Reverend Yarrow, Sports Dept staff and the Heads of Year. This committee will consider all data from each of the four criteria including the student vote.

Representative sports woman of the year is decided by the same panel of staff who review the achievements of all girls across regional, state and national team events. Due to COVID, the national recognition awards will be an acknowledgment of team selection rather than recognition of performance due to no international events being held. This was also the case for a number of state teams where girls were selected, however national events were cancelled. Again, these girls will be awarded an acknowledgment of selection rather than performance in a state team. Regardless of all the changes and cancellations due to COVID, a number of our girls have had the opportunity to compete in a range of events at varying levels and the committee has used all of this information to make their decisions on the most outstanding athletes in each year level.

We wanted to take the opportunity to express how proud we are of all the sporting giants we have here at Clayfield College.

Volleyball Academy

The Clayfield Volleyball Academy continues every Monday from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the PE Centre. Please see Ms. Barnes if your daughter is keen to join in 2022 and to collect the paperwork. Any girls who choose to leave the program MUST send an email to confirm this or payments will still be added to your College fees.

It is wonderful to be able to share student achievements with you, so if your daughter has achieved a significant result in her sport, please send through an email labelled “Student Achievements” to Ms. Christine Barnes so we can share and celebrate this achievement with the wider community.
