Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

Term Four, Week Two

October - The month of the Rosary.

The month of October each year is dedicated to the Rosary. This is due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7th.

Legend tells us that the Rosary, as a form of prayer, was given to St. Dominic (1170-1221) by Mary, the Mother of Our Lord.

Pope John Paul II called the Rosary his favorite prayer, in which we meditate with Mary upon various scripture. “Mary treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:19)

Next week’s Assembly prayer is centred around the Rosary and Mary, an important focus for us here at St. Mary’s Primary School within St. Mary’s Parish.

Assembly Prayer.

The following classes will present Assembly Prayer over the next few weeks:

Week 3: Monday, 18th October - Grad 5/6 students.

Week 4: Monday, 25th October - Grade 1/2 students.

Week 5: Monday, 1st November - No Assembly.

Week 6: Monday, 8th November - Grade 3/4AB.

World Mission Month - October.

We support two Catholic organisations each year as part of our missioning towards others here at St. Mary’s Primary School - Caritas during Lent and Catholic Mission during October.

This year, as part of our Catholic Mission studies, students will learn about the missionary work of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Thailand who, through their Kindergarten Centre, are bringing about generational change to some of the poorest communities in Bangkok.

The Grade Six Social Justice Leadership team will organise a number of activities to promote the work of Catholic Mission during October. We will share information about the Catholic Mission society’s work each week at Assembly and promote our “Socktober” activity, to be celebrated on Wednesday, 3rd November. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE DUE TO STAGGERED RETURN TO SCHOOL. The students will be invited to wear crazy socks and bring a gold coin donation in support of the work of Catholic Mission.

Celebration of the Sacraments, 2021.

Information regarding the celebration of the Sacrament of First Eucharist and the Sacrament of Confirmation for 2021 was shared with families via email last term. A follow-up letter was sent to all families this week.

Families have the choice of continuing the Sacrament of First Eucharist program in Term Four and selecting a weekend mass for their child to celebrate this sacrament when restrictions ease OR completing the Sacrament of First Eucharist program next year.

Thank you to those families who have indicated their choice.

The First Eucharist program will continue each Friday from 12.30 - 1.30pm for those students involved.

Thanking you,

Michelle Hicks
