Prayers of the People: Travel Light

Whether it’s fair to him or not, the poet T. S. Eliot is often quoted nowadays for writing: ‘We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.’

His words reflect our calling as the pilgrim people of God. With the first meeting of the Plenary Council coming to a close, a new phase of our wayfaring begins, not just here in Australia, but globally.

This week Pope Francis officially launches a church-wide journey of synodality towards the synod of 2023. It’s a summons to travel light, as the Gospel tells, and with Mary’s faith that ‘everything is possible to God.’

Let Us Pray

We pray for a deeper spirit of solidarity within Australia and with countries under-resourced for the pandemic, that this common threat will unite and not divide us.

 Lord, hear us.

We pray for all people suffering from famine, malnutrition and food insecurity, that World Food Day (16 October) will give them hope of lasting relief.

 Lord, hear us.
