Whole School Swimming Carnival

Thursday 9th February was our whole school swimming carnival. From Year 7 to 12, all students got into the school spirit dressing up in their house colours and coloured zinc.

Events were held for swimmers of all capabilities including events for those wanting to have some fun in the pool. With the weather being so hot, it was a relief to cool down in the water.

Thank you to Johnnie Walker, his team and all of the staff who volunteered. The day was a thorough success.

Congratulations to Coolart (Yellow) for winning on the day.

Feathered Friend at Swimming Carnival

A tame, pet bird joined a group of Year 8 students at the swimming sports. Chevy and his friends looked after the beautiful orange and yellow bird and brought him to the attention of staff.

While the students enjoyed the company of the bird, it was time to find its owner. The bird was taken to Seaford Vet Clinic where it was collected by its owner. The bird had travelled all the way from Langwarrin to join us.

A good news story that added to the fun of the swimming sports day and a good deed to return the bird to the owner.

Year 7 News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The year 7 students enjoyed the cyber safety session held during the week and learnt more about the benefits and drawbacks of social media. The session also included personal responsibility of the user.

Our recent swimming sports were a great event and our students wore their House colours and participated with great enthusiasm in so many events. We were fortunate to have great weather on the day too.

Next week, we would love to meet our year 7 parents at the college on Thursday 23 February. Come along and meet the year 7 teachers. We will start with a cuppa at 4.30pm and a formal introduction at 5.00pm and then there will be time for you to meet your child’s year 7 teachers. It would be lovely to meet you.

Connect

In Connect class our Year 7 students have been participating in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities.

One activity is to try and build the tallest tower that can hold a weight, teaching the students team work, leadership and problem solving.

Lots of fun while learning.                                      l

Year 11 Creative Art

Year 11 Creative Art students are working on

polaroid sized watercolour triptych pieces depicting "Places of Meaning".

Very delicate work that requires a steady hand and lots of concentration.

We are looking forward to seeing the finished products.

Senior Girls Volleyball

Mornington's  A and B teams both placed third overall of the day.  Both teams showed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day, creating a positive environment for all. The girls should be very proud of themselves for their efforts.

Senior Boys Cricket

Senior cricket- Mornington SC vs Dromana SC. Losing the toss and sent in to bat in an overcast day, runs were hard to come by for Mornington. Selected as Captain by his team, Mikis led from the front, carrying his bat through the innings and making a 50. Others chipped in but with a total of 76, it was always going to be a challenge to defend. Dromana cruised past the total despite some solid bowling from Sam and excellent keeping from Kai.

A fun day despite the result.
