Principals' Update

Foundations Started This Week!

We were very excited to see our 2023 Foundations students start school on Monday. Their Year 6 Buddies were exceptionally excited to see them. We would like to welcome all of the new Foundation Families to our school community.

Welcome Gatherings

Over the next few weeks, we will be hosting Welcome Gatherings at Curtain Square for each of our classes. The purpose of these gatherings is to provide a fun opportunity for you to get to know your child’s teacher and other families from your child’s class. Your child’s class teacher will communicate on Compass when your child’s class will be having their Welcome Gathering.

The plan for this event is that teachers will walk their class over to Curtain Square for a brief supervised play in the park from 2:45 pm on the specified date. At 3:15 pm, the teacher will walk the class back to school. Please note that there will be no dismissal from Curtain Square.

All students will require the Local Walking permission note to be signed prior to attending. If you have not already done so, please log into your child’s Compass account to provide this necessary permission.

Parent Information Sessions

Next Tuesday 14 February, our Foundation Teachers will be conducting an in-person Information Session for our Foundation parents and carers at 4:00 pm. The other Year Level Teaching Teams will be posting a pre-recorded Information Session on Compass and Seesaw at 4:40 pm Tuesday 14 February. These sessions are pre-recorded so that our busy parents and carers can watch these sessions in their own time. We encourage any parents or carers with further questions after they have viewed these videos to please contact their child’s class teacher to arrange a meeting or a phone call.

Term 1 - Inquiry Learning

Each term we try to implement our Units of Inquiry as a whole school approach. This enables siblings and families to share and discuss their common learning at home.

Swimming Sports Carnival for Years 3 to 6 at Fitzroy Pool Wednesday 15 February

On Wednesday 15 February, our students from Years 3 to 6 will be participating in our Swimming Sports Carnival. We will be requiring the students to leave school at 8:45 am with enough time to arrive for events at 9:30 am.

The school swimming carnival provides an excellent opportunity for all children to participate and compete in an event that suits their own preferences and competence. The 25 and 50-metre events allow children to experience competing in a swimming carnival, whilst the 50-metre events also act as qualifying events for children wishing to compete later in the Carlton District Swimming Carnival (23rd Feb) with the VPSSA Regional and State Carnivals held towards the end of Term 1 and the start of Term 2.

School Council

The final School Council meeting for the 2022 School Council will be held on Wednesday 22 February at 6:00 pm. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our 2022 School Council members for their ongoing support during yet another challenging year. The CNPS School Council has played a pivotal role in campaigning for funding for our school buildings. Without their support, we would not have received the election promise of $8.4 million for school refurbishment and upgrades.

This year we have 2 vacancies for parent members and 2 vacancies for community members on School Council. A call for nomination for School Council will be posted on Monday 13 February. We encourage any parents who would like to contribute to the school as a member of the School Council to please consider nominating.

150 Year Anniversary

This year, Carlton North Primary celebrates its 150th year as a school. The school’s official birthday is 28 July and we are seeking an expression of interest from CNPS families and the wider community to form a 150-Year Anniversary Committee to lead celebrations of 150 years of schooling at CNPS. If you are interested in joining this committee we ask that you email the school carlton.north.ps@education.vic.gov.au
