Word Study

In word study, we've been learning new sounds and the letters that make them. So far, we've covered S, A, T, P, I, M, N, and D. This has involved learning how to write the letters, in uppercase and lowercase, that make certain sounds, making the sounds with our mouths and doing some gestures (cued articulation) that match the sounds and help us remember them. The whole cohort has been working really hard on using this new knowledge to help them to learn how to crack the code of reading and they're doing a great job!

We've been revising these letters and sounds by making some fun mnemonics crafts that represent them. It's also been an opportunity for our students to practice their fine motor skills and get their hands strong for when they apply their knowledge and write all these letters.

At home, you can help to support your child's learning by getting them to explain their learning to you - ask what gesture matches the sounds above, how you write that letter in uppercase and lowercase, or apply that knowledge by reading the books on SeeSaw.

A huge "well done" to the students for working so hard to grow their brains, and likewise a big thank you to our families for helping to support your child's reading journey!
