Message from Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

It has been a busy first month here at NMPS! Our fantastic start to the school year has continued over the last fortnight and it has been wonderful seeing students across all year levels so settled and engaged in their learning.

A particular highlight was our Parent Information Sessions held last Thursday. We hope the information shared in each year level was informative and gave parents a bit of insight into what the year will look like for your child at NMPS. If you were unable to make the Information Sessions and would like an opportunity to touch base with your child’s teacher, please do not hesitate to reach out and make an appointment via Compass.

Year 4 Anglesea camp
Year 4 Anglesea camp

Our Year 4 students are back into the swing of school, after spending week 2 in Anglesea on camp. From all accounts it was a very enjoyable camp for everyone who attended. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our parent volunteers who attended camp with our Year 4 teachers and students.

Next week on Friday 3rd March we have our annual School Photos. Please keep an eye open on Compass for further details.

Introducing Our 2023 School Leaders

We would like to formally introduce our School Leaders and House Captains for 2023. These students were presented their badges at our whole school assembly in week 2. Please keep reading our newsletter to find an introductory letter from our student leaders.

School Council Election

As you may have seen on Compass, the number of nominations for the school council election equals the number of vacancies in both the parent member and DET employee member categories.

The elected members are Lorne Franks, Penny Hewson, Nick Sissons, Noriko Yamazaki and Gabrielle Panozzo. We look forward to working with our new members as they join the existing parent and DET employee members on our school council.

Dress Code Policy at NMPS

Last year the North Melbourne Primary School Council took the opportunity to review our current School Uniform Policy. It is good practice for schools to review their dress code to ensure the policy enables a dress code that is fully workable and reflective of the values of the school community.

As part of this review a survey of students, parents, caregivers and staff was conducted to seek feedback on our current School Uniform Policy.

Based on the results of the survey, NMPS will continue to offer a non-compulsory school uniform. Please refer to our website to see an updated Dress Code Policy which outlines appropriate clothing for students to wear to school. Our updated Sun Protection Policy can also be found on our website.

We thank all students, parents, caregivers and staff who participated in the survey.

Molesworth Street Kindergarten

It’s been exciting to welcome the kindergarten children and their families to their temporary home at our Errol Street Campus this term.

The children have settled in well to their new learning environment, quickly forming connections with their peers and educators. Kindergarten families and staff have also enjoyed the warm welcome from our school community.

There is already a strong sense of community and connection between the kindergarten and our school. Children with older siblings that attend North Melbourne Primary School are enjoying seeing their brothers and sisters onsite and being able to say ‘hello’ to each other during outdoor play.

We look forward to nurturing the relationship between the kindergarten and our school to build an even stronger sense of community and support the successful transition from kinder to primary school.

Molesworth Street Kindergarten runs Three-year-old Kinder and Four-year-old Kinder programs on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Sessions run from 8.30 am until 4 pm.

The kindergarten is now accepting enrolments for Term 2 and you can contact Northern School’s Early Years Cluster for further information.
