Principals Report

Rohan Cooper

We have held our annual ‘information week’ this week, ensuring our families are fully-informed about our practices and programs for 2023, as well as prioritising an opportunity for teachers to meet with the parents and carers of students in their class. Engaging our parents and carers in the education of their children is important to us and we know that a strong partnership between home and school results in better learning and wellbeing outcomes for students.

Your feedback is important to us; please take a few minutes to complete this survey to help us ensure ‘information week’ meets our targets as an engaging and informative process for our families.

Our school is always a busy place with plenty going on; I want to go over some important points in a brief way to ensure we stay up-to-date!

  • Our students received a ‘Proud to be at Port’ package earlier this week, including a tote bag, badge and a journal for our older students to use in the classroom. It’s been great to see so many students wearing their badges with pride and I expect to see plenty of tote bags around Bay Street!
  • Works are underway on our new ‘mini-oval’ between the administration building and the gymnasium, with an estimated completion time of around Easter.
  • Our re-located ‘Kiss ‘n Go’ area (at the Poolman Street end of Clark Street) continues to have an impact on driver behaviour on Clark Street. The safety of our students is of paramount importance to us and our families (and broader communities) can support this with responsible road use.
  • Our fortnightly assemblies are underway again and open to all members of our community. Our next assembly will be held on Monday 27th February at 9:05am and will be dedicated to presenting our Year 6 Student Leaders to the community.
  • As the next fortnight is the Labour Day Holiday, our following assembly will be Monday 27th March. This assembly will be dedicated to presenting our SRC Leaders to the community.
  • School tours have resumed each Friday at 9:30am and enrolments for 2024 are now open. If you would like to join us on a school tour, please book here via CompassTix.
  • We have had some misuse of the grounds after-school and on the weekends, particularly with Secondary School-aged students climbing on shade sails and roofs. Let’s all do our part; stop and address this with them, notify families of students if they are known to us and notify local authorities where required.

Thank you for your ongoing support and keep doing your best.

Rohan.
