Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

A warm welcome to the 2023 school year to all our new and existing families. It has been a very busy start to the year and it is lovely to see our new year 7 students settling quickly into the routine of secondary school. We are excited by the fact that most of our new and upgraded facilities are now accessible to students and that changing Covid restrictions mean we can once again gather as a whole school community. This is so important in building a sense of cohesion and spirit amongst students and staff alike.

The Pastoral Team at Marian is here to support your student in their wellbeing and learning. Please remember to reach out to your child’s Pastoral Leader if you have concerns. You may be re-directed to a classroom teacher or Leader of Learning if necessary. If necessary the Pastoral Leader may seek support from myself or our College counselor, Karen Surian.  As a team, working with families, we aim to provide the best outcome for our students.

Please remember that attendance is crucial in optimising learning. Use Compass to communicate any absences. Regular or prolonged absence has a negative impact on learning.

Students are required to be in full summer uniform unless they have a PDHPE practical lesson, PAS practical, Fitness practical or Sport. Students out of uniform are being asked to spend some of their time cleaning various areas around the school. Please ensure your child is presenting to school in the correct uniform. It is a symbol of our College and worn with pride.

A reminder that students in years 7 - 10 are not to have mobile phones or smart watches on their person at school. Please ensure your child has a card or cash if they are to make purchases at the canteen.

The HSC results of our 2022 students were exceptional and amongst the standout marks and band 6’s were wonderful individual stories of success. Individuals who set personal goals, overcame personal challenges and obstacles and went on to achieve to the best of their ability. Our new HSC cohort is already well immersed in assessment tasks, fundraising, university applications and looking to their futures. Encourage your HSC students to seek support where necessary from their classroom teacher, mentor, Pastoral Leader or College counselor. Working together we can achieve great things.

Remember to contact your child’s Pastoral Leader if you have concerns about the wellbeing of your child. I look forward to working with our Marian families in 2023.
