It's been another busy couple of weeks in 3/4!

In Reading we have been revising a range of decoding strategies to help us when we read tricky words. We have also been learning about activating our prior knowledge and making connections, in order to help us understand what we are reading.

In Writing we continued to develop our Narrative writing skills. We worked on using rich vocabulary to build suspense in the lead up to our complication, and ways in which to resolve the story. This week we moved into Persuasive Writing, focusing on using persuasive language and following the OREO structure to develop our writing.

In Maths, we have been exploring Number and Place Value by practicing rounding numbers and ordering. This week we used our knowledge of place value to explore a range of addition strategies, including vertical addition.

Our Topic this term is Friendships and Co-operation. We have been reading Charlotte's Web and focusing on qualities and behaviours that make a good friend. Please check out Compass for the Great Mates incursion information. This incursion will be on March 14th and will explore the skills and attributes of a good friend, both how to be one and how to have good friends.

Also this week we were very lucky to participate in the YABBA Virtual Author Program with the incredibly talented author, Matt Cosgrove. Matt Cosgrove is the popular author of books including Macca the Alpaca series. It was wonderful seeing students get involved and develop their illustration skills. A big thank you to Miss Lewis for organising this wonderful experience for our students.

We would like to remind our students and families that nightly reading is a very important part of your child's education. Reading each night and recording it in your child's reading diary will help your child achieve their learning goals. We also give our Reading Awards for nights read. Please encourage your child to read for 10-20 minutes each night and fill it in their reading diary which is checked by their teacher weekly. We would also love if you could sign the diary once a week also.
