Principal's Reports

Another fantastic fortnight at Bunyip Primary School – it was a hot one but certainly helped with the fruit slushy frenzy from the canteen last Friday.

Meet the Teacher

It was great to have so many families attend the Meet the Teachers afternoon on Tuesday. The afternoon provided a good opportunity for introductions and to start two-way dialogue between school and home.  We really value these strong partnerships in creating a ‘Team Around the Learner’ and supporting our young people to grow.

District Swimming

I would like to congratulate all students that represented our school at District Swimming yesterday. You all represented our school with pride and we are very proud of each of you. A special congratulations to Max Clark who will be continuing through to Division Swimming in a couple of weeks.

NOTICE OF SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTION AND CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

We have commenced the election process for 2023 School Council Positions. All government schools in Victoria have a School Council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the broad direction of a school, in accordance with Ministerial Order 1280 Constitution of Government School Councils, and the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. In doing this, a School Council may directly influence the quality of education for students. WHO IS ON THE SCHOOL COUNCIL?

For most primary school councils, there are several possible categories of membership:

•    A mandated elected parent member category – more than one-third of the total members must be from this category. Department employees can be parent members at their child’s school providing that they are not engaged inwork at the school.

•    A mandated elected school employee member category – members of this category make up no more than one-third of membership. The principal of the school is automatically one of these members.

•    An optional community member category – members are co-opted by a decision of the council because of their special skills, interests or experience. Department employees are not eligible to be community members.

A strong and collegiate School Council with diverse parent representation is at the core of high quality education. As Principal, I deeply value the opportunity to collaborate with parents through the School Council and encourage anyone in a position to do so to consider nominating. Typically, our School Council meets once per month on a Monday from 6-7pm. Forms can be downloaded from Compass or collected from the Office. If you would like further information to help with your consideration in nominating please do not hesitate to call the school and speak with me.
