Positive Climate for Learning

1-2 Learning Community

The 1-2 Learning Community have had an amazing start to the year 2020. We’ve been making brand new friends, learning brand new things, and having heaps and heaps of fun.

In Maths we’ve been focusing on breaking apart numbers from 1 -10 – there are so many different ways we can break apart numbers!

In reading we’ve been focusing on short vowel sounds. Next time you’re in the car, see how many things start with the sound ‘a’?

We’re taking a look at our family culture in Inquiry – it’s amazing to see just how diverse we are at ACS. So many people bring so much to our school.

For writing, we’ve had a really big focus on writing recounts. One of the best things we’ve done so far is writing a recount about the super fun House Celebration Day. We’ve learned that to write a good recount we need to develop a strong orientation – we do this by using the 5 W’s: who, what, when, where and why. Once we’ve done our orientation, we need to sequence our ideas. Then we get to write all our ideas into sentences. One student gave a great definition of a recount: “It’s when you want to tell someone about something you have already done.”
