Hi everyone

Last Friday, our senior and middle schools competed in the 2022 St Louis Cross Country Carnival.  The weather was perfect for cross country running.  Not too hot, not too cold and no wind.

Many students trained on Tuesday mornings to prepare themselves for this gruelling event.  Good cross country running requires smart thinking because you have to judge the speed that suits best.  Good cross country running also requires us to be brave because you have to be prepared to push yourself even when you are really tired.

Thank you to all of the many teachers that helped the students practice and made them fitter and stronger runners.  They trained every Tuesday and on some mornings, we had nearly 100 runners turn up.

Thank you to the teachers that marshalled the course on the day to keep the students safe and supported.  Thank you for your help on the start line, the finish line, the scoring and the bike escorts.

A MASSIVE thank you to the parents who marshalled the course. To stand out there for 90 minutes encouraging and supporting our kids was awesome. It is hard to think how these events could go ahead if it wasn't for you. Thank you to Leah, Renata, Angela, Melinda, Kristen, Regan, Lorissa, Naomi, Jane, Laurette, Louise and another couple of parents who came on the day.  The students greatly appreciated the encouragement you gave them.

Thank you to Frank because he got his lawnmower out on to government land.

There were 6 races in total.  Here are the individual place getters named from first to third.

12 Year Old boys - Ben L’Huillier, Archer Malone and Harvey Wintle

12 Year Old girls - Leila Gothard, Matilda Laughlin and Lily Dixon

11 Year Old boys - Jake Lambert, Rory Clarke and Ryder Tesoriero

11 Year Old girls - Teagan Smullen, April O’Brien and Ruby Bragg

9/10 Year Old boys - Aiden Cramer, Cooper Leonard and Jensen Clarke

9/10 Year Old girls - Mika Lee, Clementine Arrowsmith and Hannah Lau

Every cross country we award a perpetual trophy to the fastest boy and the fastest girl irrespective of what age group they are in.  This year the Girl’s Cross Country Champion was Leila Gothard. The Boy’s Cross Country Champion was Ben L’Huillier.

Everyone who completed the event earned points for their team.  If you finished 1st, you earned 1 point for your house.  If you finished 50th, you earned 50 points for your house.  The winning team is the team with the LEAST amount of points.

The points were calculated and the results are:

In 4th place, on 36 points, was Fatima house.

In 3rd place, on 33.7 points, was Lourdes house.

In 2nd place, on 33.2 points, was MacKillop house.

Therefore, the winner of the 2022 St Louis de Montfort’s Intra-school Cross Country Carnival, on 29 points, was Carmel house.

The medals and trophies were awarded to the winners and Spirit captains at a Year 3 to 6 assembly on Monday and the captains made speeches thanking the other competitors.

The top 10 runners from each race will be competing in the Chelsea District Carnival this Friday 6th May.  Congratulations to all of you for qualifying.  We wish you the best.
