This week, the Year 12 students engaged in a wellbeing workshop, focusing on motivation levels and ways to stay on track in their final year of high school. After a long and challenging two years of interrupted learning, some students were finding it hard to find the inspiration to really commit to their Year 12 studies this year. The session aimed to identify the causes behind a lack of motivation, understand the different types of motivation and how this can help increase enthusiasm, ability to stick to schedules and the ability to identify life priorities.

Students were actively engaged in a range of different activities, including both self-reflection and group work. Students were asked to reflect on their own behaviours in the past, and whether these were helpful for their studies. They identified their own type of motivation and how this knowledge can be used to increase it in the coming weeks. The Year 12’s also identified common distractors to effective study, and how these can be avoided in the future.

Hopefully, with such a positive start to Term 2, the Year 12’s now feel refreshed and revitalised, with new found enthusiasm to help them successfully achieve all of their goals in their remaining two terms at the College.

Year 12’s recently participated in a wellbeing program that focused on our motivation and ways to improve our enthusiasm and determination for our final year in high school. It allowed us to explore our best suited style of learning, and what truly motivates us to push ourselves. Teachers guided us through this program and helped us uncover methods to get back on track and progress in our learning and properly balance out our lives so that we can improve our mental wellbeing. I found this experience helpful as it was relieving to know that the teachers and Year 12 cohort are all gradually recovering from the challenging 2 years of COVID together, and to be reminded that teachers are here to support us throughout our final year at St. John’s.

My overall feelings about the wellbeing workshop are that it was a success, as time went very fast. It gave us a different perspective on how our normal days are filled with different tasks and how we manage time, as well as how to stop getting distracted or minimize getting distracted.
