Leadership
There is a diverse range of opportunities for leadership in the Secondary years, but the latest additions are food focused! Thank you to Clarissa, Tessa and Hayley for your roles in leading the sausage sizzles and the canteen helper rosters. The student body certainly benefits from your service!
Outdoor presentations
The story of the fiery furnace from the book of Daniel was recently brought to life by our year 6 class. With special appearances via technology from two of the year 6 students who have had to isolate. The class of year 6s then had all the primary students up on their feet, singing and dancing to "Eye of the Storm".
The year 6's message was timely and clear ... that our circumstances change but we can stand firm knowing that we have a BIG God who doesn't change. He is in control and we can trust in Him! Great job year 6s!
Wet and Wild!
The Beach Carnival was cancelled but it didn't stop the students from having water play fun! Both campuses were able to have a great day with water-based activities on dry (sort of!) land, assisted by the senior primary students and leaders. Such a great innovation!
The favourite game of the afternoon was Bucket Head where students got an opportunity to get their teachers wet!!
Snorkeling
With beautiful weather the Outdoor Education students had the opportunity to go out snorkelling at the jetty with their teacher, Mrs Watson. They are pictured showing their small and big "ok" signals and swimming in a buddy pair.
Fishing
The Busselton Year 6 House Captains buddied up with a year 4/5 student to take them fishing with Fishability. It was a great opportunity for the year 6s to show leadership skills in the form of mentoring and encouragement.
Harmony Day
Busselton PP enjoyed investigating Harmony Day all week in class! We played a game where we got to know our class-mates' and teachers' different backgrounds, we learnt to say good morning and good bye in Mandarin, German and Afrikaans. We read books about children around the world that do things that are the same as, us such as go to school and play. And things children do around the world that are different such as foods, language, and celebrations.
We made paper people to represent all the different friends in our class and made a display.
We have been learning the memory verse 'I am Wonderfully made by God' and we all agreed that God created us all to be unique. No matter where we come from or what we look like, He loves us all the same and we can all be part of His family together.
Visual Art
Mrs Haskett is one of our new Secondary teachers. She teaches Visual Art and Graphic Design and has already put her stamp on the Secondary Art room! Mrs Haskett recently captured her class super-focused on creating their ceramic art pieces. A terrific opportunity to catch a glimpse of their work in progress. Thanks Mrs Haskett.
Fabulous Friday
Fridays are always a bit special at the Dunsborough campus, but last Friday the Year 1/2 class had fun investigating the properties of materials. Thanks to the parents who helped make this 'outdoor day' possible.
Humble Espresso
The Dunsborough Year 5/6 class integrated their learning journey this term around the topic of coffee, and have been working towards opening a 'class cafe'.
Together they learned where in the world coffee is grown, how it is harvested, roasted, ground and brewed. They investigated coffee roasting and brewing technology that increases efficiency and enhances consumer satisfaction. They discussed and baked healthy food options for a cafe and practised good hygiene for food preparation and service. In business, economics and maths, they have considered the expenses associated with running a cafe, including human resources, purchasing and maintaining capital equipment, and product costs. As a consolidation of their learning, they have opened a cafe for our parent community! The grand opening was very well attended and a huge success. The coffee quality rivalled some of the best in town.
Here's some photos of opening morning!
