Principal's Report

Dear Families,

It is wonderful to see all our students, families and staff return after the holiday break. The beautiful weather made it even more enjoyable.

BEST WISHES

Miss McCoy and Alex are being married on Sunday after a couple of reschedules due to COVID. We hope they have a wonderful day and happiness for many years to come. We will look forward to some photos for next weeks newsletter.

ANZAC DAY

I was very proud of our school leaders Delilah Thomas and Scott Moran who represented our school at the ANZAC Day Ceremony on Monday. The Toolamba Lion’s Club are to be congratulated upon the very moving ceremony.

WELCOME

We would like to welcome two new families to our school, Emily Cray and Joseph Braden and their children, Lillian (Grade 3) and Lucy (Foundation) and  Mandy and Miguel Charquero and their children Chayton (Grade1) and Mansi (Grade 2). All students have settled in smoothly and we hope they enjoy being part of our wonderful Toolamba community.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Next Wednesday we will start our Breakfast Club. Students are welcome to attend from 8.15-9am. Breakfast will take place in the Central Learning Street. Students are to enter the building via the Office. Kasey Cook has very kindly offered to assist me with the breakfast.  Through the club we aim to create a nurturing, caring environment, where students can start the day having eaten a healthy breakfast and be better prepared for learning. Children who are enrolled in Before School Care will have the option of joining us for breakfast.

MOTHER'S DAY STALL

Once again, we are having our Mother’s Day Stall on Wednesday 4th May commencing at 9am. Currently we are collecting items to sell on the day. All donations would be gratefully accepted. They can be dropped in at the office.

Next Thursday and Friday we are conducting school tours for families interested in enrolling their children in 2023. Bookings can be made via the link in the School Tours article or by ringing the Office on 58265212. Sessions are:

May 5th - 9:30am to 11:00am

May 6th - 9:30am to 11:00am

SCHOOL PHOTOS

Next Friday we have our school photos. Students are requested to wear the correct school uniform. Please remember that shoulder length hair is to be tied back.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN is being held this term in Week 3 for all primary and secondary schools. Students in Years Three and Five will complete four assessments - Writing (narrative or persuasive), Reading, Conventions of Language and Mathematics. For the first time this year our school will be completing the assessments online.  Each online session will run between 40-50 minutes depending on the topic and year level.

NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is  progressing in Literacy and Mathematics against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgment about student progress.

The best way you can help your child prepare  for  NAPLAN is  to  reassure them  that  NAPLAN tests  are  just one part of their school program and to advise them to do the best they can on the day.   Ensure your child   has had proper rest and has a healthy snack and lunch as usual. Students who are funded under Special Needs may be exempted from completing the NAPLAN tests. Parents/Guardians who do not want their child to sit the test, please contact the school for an Exemption Form

If your son/daughter is not a funded student, a parent or guardian may withdraw the student from one or all the NAPLAN tests. Parents/Guardians need to contact their child’s teacher, or myself if they wish to withdraw their child from any of the NAPLAN tests.

We will hold our annual Toolamba Cross Country on Monday 9th May in the afternoon. More details will follow next week once we have finalised times and track details.
