Grade 2 Fortnightly Snapshot

Welcome

Dear Parents, 

We are having a busy last couple of weeks of Term. It was wonderful to see students celebrating Italian Day yesterday.

Classes are having a Market Day as part of our unit of inquiry next Wednesday. Students have been working on a product to sell at the market as well as some advertising. This is an in-class activity and students are mostly using materials found in the classroom. 

Next Thursday the Grade 2 teachers will be have our planning day for next term. 

Reading

We are focusing on persuasive texts in reading and writing. Students have learnt about fact and opinion, the purpose of a text, audience, persuasive techniques and conjunctions. They have been working on their text analysis skills by answering questions about purpose, audience and language. Students have been developing their comprehension and connection skills by answering a range of questions about their reading. 

Writing

In writing, students have been working on a persuasive text. They have learnt to plan their writing and to give reasons to support their opinion. Many students are working on writing paragraphs by providing supporting details for each reason. They have applied their knowledge of adjectives and adverbs to improve their persuasive language. Students have worked through the text in small parts and have used the writing process to plan, draft, edit and publish. Students will also be preparing an advertisement for their product to help their sales at the Market. 

Maths

Students will be applying their skills in counting money, adding prices and giving change at our Market Day. They have also collected data to help them make an informed choice about which product ideas are likely to sell. 

Next week we will also be revising addition and subtraction strategies.

Unit of Inquiry

Next week is our final week of our inquiry into Critical Thinking supports Informed Choices. We have made many curriculum links and our Market Day joins the content covered in English, Maths and Inquiry together.
