School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship Information Session and Applications

With Course Counselling approaching rapidly, any student considering a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) must read the information attached to the information post on the Compass Newsfeed.

SBATs are a fantastic way for students to start their career in a skills need area, at the same time as completing their schooling – with either a VCE or VCAL. SBATs generally complete (or partially complete) a Cert III qualification as well as work at least 1 day per week in that industry.

Compass Newsfeed Information:

Please note that students wishing to apply for this program must still go through the normal VCE subject selection process first. This program is only available to students who are successful in our application process. The application process is explained in the Powerpoint presentation accompanying the current Newsfeed item. You will also find the application form, which needs to be completed and returned by Friday August 14.

Please note, an SBAT can be commenced in either Year 11 or Year 12. I urge students and their families to watch the video on Compass as part of course counselling information and read the Frequently Asked Questions document attached to the Newsfeed item first. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MObSo1zsMn8tGoR0kliXs-o4KqfINTID/view?usp=sharing

There is also additional information on the Newsfeed item from our two excellent provider partners: Headstart and atEAST. You will find information about application, and the application form itself. This should be submitted by Friday August 14.

Finally, note that VCAL subjects are different from VCE subjects. Please also read this information so that you can make an informed decision.

Online Information Session:

The College would normally conduct an information night so that students and their families can access this information first-hand, and ask questions about the individual pathway options and industries.

To replace this, a Q&A session will be arranged next week, via Teams. This will take place from 1:30pm next Thursday August 6. Students and their families are encouraged to email me (ahead of this session) any questions they would like answered either in this session, or privately.

The Q&A session will be conducted on Microsoft Teams, via an SBAT Information Team, which students will be invited to. If you have not been included in this team and would like to be added, please contact me via Compass by Wednesday August 5.  The session will be recorded so any family who can’t access it with their child can watch it later via Microsoft Stream. Families are urged to watch this with their children live if possible so they can ask questions.

Representatives of Headstart and atEAST will be a part of this session.
