Harmony Day

On Friday 17th March our school celebrated Harmony Day and the classrooms, corridors, home rooms and outside areas were abuzz with students and teachers either dressed in orange, wearing the colours of the flag of their country of heritage or wearing traditional clothing symbolic of their own or past generational heritage. There were flags of various countries and display boards teaching students how to say “hello” in another language.

Our Junior and Senior School school leadership and house captains were involved in running activities on the day and even two orange dinosaurs were seen running around outside and intermingling with students who happily chased after them, at times smothering them with hugs. There have been discussions within our classrooms about the meaning of Harmony and conversations about family, traditions and cultures, with one Year 2 boy telling me he had leaned how to spell the 16 letter word ‘multiculturalism’ (very impressive).

The theme of our Assembly talks this term has been “Christian Community’ which certainly ties in well with the themes of Harmony Day such as unity, respect, encouragement and giving. In a Christian community our unity comes from one belief and one faith in Jesus Christ as the Lord, being in one body, united in one spirit, under God our heavenly Father (paraphrased from Ephesians 4:4-6).
