Prep

The Prep students had so much fun on Athletics day! They all persisted, tried their best and had fun while doing all the different events!

Year 1

The last number of days have been full of excitement as we acknowledged Harmony Day and joined in the fun on Athletics Day. We were delighted to have Dotty’s mother come and share their family origins and the traditions they celebrate on St Patrick's Day. Below are a couple of stories from the Year 1 students about Athletics Day:

"Go, go go Knox, Luther and Calvin. It was a blast. My favourite event was frisbee. I loved Athletics Day. It was the best day of my life!"
Dotty

"I loved it because I came first in the 100 metres and vortex and frisbee".
Luke

"My favourite event was frisbee, running, 3 legged race and tug of war. I am in Knox House. I had the best time at Athletics Day. I liked the bus ride. I had a sausage and a juice box".

Year 2

The Year 2 students have exhibited their chef skills this week as they wrote procedures then worked together to follow these procedures and make foods such as fairy bread, jelly and pizza.

Last Friday, we celebrated Harmony Day and discussed how we can help make the world a peaceful place. The class looked amazing as everyone was dressed in clothes from their family's culture.

The Year 2 and Year 4 students also gathered together for their first buddy session last week where they shared stories and completed a little craft.

Finally, of course, the Year 2's had a blast at the Athletics Carnival on Tuesday! Some of their favourite parts were the "tug of war", vortex, relay races, having sausages and icy-poles, and playing on the playground.

Year 3

In Year 3, we enjoy the unique contributions of each class member. Some of these contributions are made by each member of our two sets of twins, as displayed in the image below. As Newsletter space is limited, I invite you to view the full display at our upcoming Open Evening on 28th March.

Year 5

Last week, Year 5 have enjoyed the chance to experience stage performance in Music and create paper twirlers in STEM. They also took NAPLAN in their stride. Awesome effort.

Year 6

Year 6 have spent a number of weeks, working in small groups, on their current STEM projects. Their task was to use straws and sticky tape to "create a roller coaster for a ping pong ball to roll along." Next Monday will be their last lesson to finalise their designs, just in time for Open Evening next Tuesday. When parents and visitors come to our classroom they can admire what each group has created and the students are looking forward to demonstrating how their designs work.

Junior School Art

This term, the students from Prep to Year 6 have excelled in working on their first major artwork. The students have learned about the watercolour technique known as “crayon resist”. The Year 6 students have further learned eight different watercolour techniques.

As this is an Easter artwork, the next challenge has been for students to choose their layout to display their Easter story eggs.

The artworks remind us that as Christians, Easter is a very significant celebration we can’t help but share and one which we can express in our unique way. The artworks will be displayed along the passage in the Junior School wing until just after Open Evening. We are excited that following this, they will be on display at Gateway Plaza this Easter.

Some of the Junior School classes are presently working on a mural design to go on display at the RSL sometime between the 9th and 28th April for ANZAC Day. It is lovely to have our artwork seen and appreciated by students, teachers, and parents but also by those in the community who may just need this uplift. Well done to our Junior School artists! Don't forget to come and take a look at their work held at any of these spaces.
