Sovereign Hill Year 6 Camp Report
On the 15th of March, us year 6s travelled to Sovereign Hill for our camp. It was a long 3 days, so we are here to tell you about it!
On the first day we were set free to explore the town of Sovereign Hill. Many of our cohort members really enjoyed this tourist day, as we got to do many activities such as, mine tours, confectionery demos, candle demo, gold panning, and spending our money on lollies and toys. After the fun day, we finally got to go back to our cabins and set up ours beds. Dinner was next, and we were all so excited to eat some pizza! Afterwards we got in some warm clothes, and got ready for the movies! Later that night we hopped on the bus, and we DEFINITELY didn’t bring any lollies… The movie on that night was ‘Puss in Boots the Last Wish’. After the movie, the buses came, we then got back to our cabins we got ready for bed! Some of our classmates have some things they also liked about the first day! Mason T and Mason W say they enjoyed roaming free and buying lollies, and also the mine tours.
We woke up with excitement, as we knew today we were dressing up. After getting ready we went to breakfast, and then we went to grab our shoes for the dressing up. Then we headed to an area to meet our 1850’s teacher. Our teacher led us to the room where we would dress up. Ma’am told us about the clothing and how we were going to act. We walked in height order and in two lines, which was boys and girls. Each time we walked around Sovereign Hill we had to stay in character. We learned a few things kids learned in the gold rush like quotes the had and learn our twelves times tables. We had a few breaks and got to play games that kids played in their breaks at school. After school we went back to our cabins and got to relax for a while before dinner. Later after we had dinner we got ready to go to the light show. It was a great experience! Harry B and Jesse Z say they liked the acting and how they got mad, the games at lunch but also the dressing up. It was a great day!
We woke up again with excitement in our body, but also sadness, because today we were leaving Sovereign Hill! We had breakfast, and then met Ma’am for another fun day roleplaying as a student in the 1850’s! We began our school and we finally got to write in ink, and we practiced our 12 times tables! After the morning passed, we had our school photos taken, and they turned out amazing! We had some morning tea, and played some 1850s games. We did more ink writing, and then we walked to lunch! We ate chicken of ham rolls with some fruit and chips. Afterwards we walked back to our schools and continue the work that we had to finished. We also had one more break, and started to say our goodbyes to the school and Sovereign Hill. We all walk as a school back to our luggage and walk back to the bus which was not far and loaded our luggage on. We all waited a bit to get on the bus, eventually we got on the bus, and went home! Marisa and Sophie said they really enjoyed writing with ink, dressing up, and of course the bus ride!
