Career's Corner
Who can believe that we have made it to the end of Term 1? All VM students are working hard in their placements and learning lots of valuable work and life skills. Robyn has been working hard to get change of placements for the students who are seeking something different. She has also been working with the Year 10 students, planning, and obtaining their placements for work experience which will occur at the end of Term 2.
Career Education has been happening across the year levels, with the primary students starting to look at what a career is and what they would like to be when they grow up. This is the question that a lot of us are still pondering! The main thing to remember is that it is ok to change your mind. Not everyone finds their perfect place straight away. Some people may move from job to job, trying to find their right fit. The main thing to remember is to seek advice and help as you make this journey. Acquire skills along that way that are transferrable to whatever work you are doing. And most importantly, enjoy the work you are doing.
Volunteer work is a perfect way to start to acquire experience and valuable work and life skills. Become an assistant coach at the local sport club or put up your hand to do shifts in the canteen. Approach local nursing homes and see what you can do to help. Contact Community House and see what areas need extra volunteers or talk to someone at the local council. Or join your local CFA or SES. Volunteer work helps you gain experience and looks great on a resume.
