National Simultaneous Reading Time

On the 24th May we at St Joseph's join with over a million children to read a book. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 23rd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6. This year we are reading The Speedy Sloth.

Anzac Day

Part of our learning in the library this term is for children to learn how important Anzac Day is in our history.

Kinder and Stage 1 have been reading Anzac Day Parade, My Grandad Marches on Anzac Day, Simpson and His Donkey and Only a Donkey

Stage 2 and 3 have been choosing to read a book on the Anzac Theme in groups and retell the story to the rest of the class. The children are fascinated by the Anzac theme.

Lunchtimes in the Library

Because the weather has been so beautiful we have been doing some of our lunchtime activities outside.

Library open Wednesdays and Thursdays.
