Introduction

Dear Endeavour Hills Specialist School community,

Having come to the end of my third week here at EHSS it is high time I introduce myself. I have come to Endeavour Hills SS with a wealth of knowledge and experience from the specialist school community having worked in schools for intellectual disability, special development schools and autism specific schools.

For the last eight years I have been in a leadership role, with the last year and a half as the Assistant Principal at Southern Autistic School. As a school leader I have worked in both Teaching and Learning teams and most recently in wellbeing teams. In Teaching and Learning, I have supported schools to implement evidence-based programs and strategies in English and Numeracy, with a particular interest in the science of reading. As an Assistant Principal I have led whole school wellbeing initiatives, enjoying the work of supporting the mental/physical health and social/emotional learning of students and empowering teachers to be the best possible practitioners they can be. In my work with Autistic learners, I have based my implementation on universal strategies ‘positive for all, harmful to none’.

Here at Endeavour Hills, I have been welcomed by all staff and students. I have been so impressed by the physical space of the school. Our beautiful school really does have the wow factor! The culture of the school is incredibly positive and everyone – staff and students alike – live the value of kindness.

Our students clearly understand the school value and rise to the challenge of meeting their own potential by demonstrating the value with all they encounter.

I am often at the school drop off/pick up point in the mornings and afternoons on most days during the week. Please do introduce yourselves and have a chat about all the great things our school is achieving or just say Hi. I feel very blessed to have arrived at such an encouraging, beautiful school community where opportunities abound and looking forward to continuing the work of building an exceptional centre of excellence for students with disabilities.

Sincerely,

Nat Hassan
