Indigenous Studies
Last week the year 8/9 Indigenous studies class welcomed Koorie Educational Support Officers Tammy and Rosie and they all made bark huts and caves. This is a new Humanities subject this year, taught by Rosemary Oldis and this term has focused on the early indigenous history, culture and lifestyle in the Kiewa Valley from very early times through to the beginning of European settlement. We are very fortunate to be able to draw on the expertise and support of our local Koorie Educational Support Officers - thank you.

VCE VM Projects - School Garden
Our VM class has been busy over the last 8 weeks in the garden working on a number of projects.
We have been fixing things up to make the area look better. Roly has been trimming back roofing sheets on the shed so he can put some guttering on. Then we will be able to collect rainwater to run into the tank that he is going to put on a stand off the ground.
Jake and Isaac have been clearing an area (most of us have done the work), so that they have an area to put compost bays for the garden. Then everyone in the school can put their scraps in there.
Bevo (Josh Beverley) has been organising fundraising activities for us so that we can buy work clothes, and not wear school uniform while working outside. Callum has fixed up a garden bed so that we can plant seeds in it. He’s going to put a roof over it so that it is protected from the sun and the plants don’t get burnt when they come up.
Grace and Anastasia have been planting seeds and propagating cuttings so they can grow and we can plant them in the garden. This will add to what we’ve already got growing in the garden.
Lachlan has been constructing shelves in the garden shed so we have more area to organise tools and materials and so that the shed can look cleaner and so that there’s nothing on the ground for people to trip over when they access it. He is also going to fix some of the tools so that they aren’t broken when you go to use them.
We’ve also been moving mulch around to cover the areas where there is weeds and have been putting mulch all over the footpath. We’ve also been picking the vegetables that are ready into a bucket and taking it inside for people to take home or use in the kitchen at school. We’ve been keeping the lawn down throughout the term, so that it doesn’t over-grow and doesn’t look like a messy area. We also flattened an area out and took most of the weeds out of it to make it look better.
