Principal's Report
with Simone Roy
Even though this term has seemed very long, it seems to have drawn to a close very quickly! Progress reports were available on Friday last week and Conferences (formerly Parent-Teacher Interviews) are being held this Wednesday from 1 – 8pm, with a dinner break from 5.20 – 6pm. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers, and we strongly encourage the young person to take part in these discussions with their teachers. Bookings are still available, through Compass.
It was not long ago that I had to inform the school community that this long running program was finishing up at the end of this year, due to being unable to find a source of longer term funding. For the decades that this program ran, the 3 participating schools received funding from the ADVANCE program (part of DHHS), which meant that students could participate in this 2 year program and receive recognised TAFE certificates for the training they undertook, at a minimal cost to the families. However, when the funding model changed at the end of 2021, the program no longer met the requirements and the funding was withdrawn.
Supporting the second year students to finish what they had started last year was a priority, however, we were unable to accept a new group of first year students, as we were unable to secure funding. However, the board of the Mount Beauty & District Community Bank, Branch of Bendigo Bank, met last week and have agreed to financially support the program for 2023 and 2024. This is such a generous offer and will mean that the program can continue at least until the end of next year. I can’t thank the Bank enough for their support of such a worthwhile program, on behalf of the students that will be able to participate into next year.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service ‘Smile Squad’ are attending school this week, providing free dental checks to all students. Permission needs to be provided through a QR code in a Compass newsfeed or via a hardcopy which can be collected from the office.
