Kindergarten News

Kindergarten Communication:

To celebrate the end of term, we are going to have a sports 'dress up day' on each class's last day of Term. Feel free to dress your child in their favourite team's colours, or outfit. This could be ball sports, ballet, or even some fun active ware.

Al

Budja:

Wow, what a great week we had at Kinder last week!

We focused on bringing the program down a touch as the past few weeks have been very busy and exciting. We did this by focusing on games, stories and drama, continuing to support each child's participation and self-regulation.

The children participated in a group activity around the story 'Dear Zoo', opening a small box each to see what we had been sent until we finally received a puppy! We also acted out 'Hats for Sale', participated in our Lycra song and read some fantastic stories. As Early Childhood Teachers, responding and modifying the program in these ways, allows the children to interact and respond with a deeper level of focus and concentration, connecting to each other as well as greater learning and communication outcomes.

We are excited for what our last week of Kinder will bring for Term 3.

Marram:

With some very busy weeks behind us, this week was all about slowing our minds and bodies down, enjoying the leisurely flow of the Kindergarten days, and connecting with our peers. We revisited our learning in emotional literacy through playing group games, and practised self-regulation skills through music and dance. Outside, we explored the School playground for the first time, which made the children very excited for what was ahead of them next year! We also continued to follow the children’s interest in the trickle stream. The children investigated how water moves when acted on by forces; the children used big buckets to push large amounts of water - and little tug boats - down the stream. This experimentation with water is fantastic for developing children’s ability to think, wonder, and seek answers to questions or solutions to problems.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone for our last week of Term 3!

Gawarn:

We had such a beautiful warm week, and Spring is on its way now! This week we set up children with all the resources they need to successfully put their sunscreen on themselves with limited adult support. Toward the end of Term Three, it's great to see the children apply all the skills and knowledge they learned in negotiating and compromising and reminding each other of helpful choices with increasing confidence.

Also, we invited children to do a show and tell in front of their peers to support their confidence in speaking and telling their ideas, event and asking questions. This will be continued in the next term. In Mandarin class, the children were engaged with Cristina doing a role play story which is a well-known story called "Gingerbread Man." The children drew their characters last week and followed the narrative acting out the roles. Role play is a wonderful way for children to explore books and stories. In addition to just being fun, the children work on so many early literacy skills doing this and learning a second language too.

Wimbi and Dharug:

This week the children revisited the bingo game, which was introduced a couple of weeks ago. They showed an increased understanding of the game's rules and enthusiasm for participating. We have been working with children to create flexible and positive routines and rituals to empower them to make their own choices meeting their learning and bodily needs. We interact and scaffold the learning with children in thoughtful, effective, and productive ways during routines. Toward the end of Term 3, it's great to see the children increase their confidence to explore and engage with social and physical environments through relationships and play.
