Halo semuanya - hello everyone!

Can you believe that we are three quarters of the way through Foundation?! We definitely cannot. As usual, there is no chance of slowing down yet with our long awaited Junior Production taking place this Tuesday night. We look forward to seeing everyone there. As we have a week that is jam-packed full of events, we will be unable to run our usual parent-helper program. Thank you to all who were able to come and support us in the classroom this term! We look forward to getting in contact for your availability in Term 4.

To prepare for the production, we will run a full dress rehearsal at school on Monday and the senior students will come along to be our audience. On Tuesday, we will travel to the theatre for a rehearsal on the stage. Students will not need to be in costume for this and can arrive at school in their school uniform on both days. However, on Friday we will have our Sports Day Celebration where students are invited to wear their favourite sports gear or team colours from AFL or another activity that they love.

We have also been invited to attend the 1/2 Puppet Show performances on Wednesday this week! Alongside the Junior Production, these shows will be the stimulus for our writing this week. Students will use the familiar format of a recount to work on their writing goals and WOW words to describe these events. Students will also celebrate their amazing story writing efforts as we showcase our narratives about ‘The Creature Under the Bridge’ next to our dioramas. Over the term, students have chosen an animal that could live under their bridge. After drawing and making their animal, everybody planned the beginning, middle and end of their stories before writing them. This week, students will finish their bridge dioramas where their creature can live and their stories can come to life! We can’t wait to see each other’s hard work in our showcase morning on Thursday.

In Mathematics, we have been looking a lot at Place Value and making numbers from smaller parts. We have looked at two ‘parts’ that add together to make a number, or how we can break numbers into tens and ones. Over the holidays it would be great to continue counting and noticing numbers in the world around you! An easy way to do this is to have a calendar to track numbers and dates before coming back to school. During Reading, students have been practising retelling the parts of a story in order. This would also be a great activity to continue doing as you read books at home over the holidays.

A highlight this term has been students’ engagement in Play-Based Learning sessions. During these sessions, we have been focusing on communication skills. We have specifically looked at asking and answering questions, listening carefully and using body language. Students have had the opportunity to engage in dramatic play spaces such as the Cafe, Work Shop and Vet. Next term, we look forward to engaging in new spaces such as a Pizza Shop, Hospital and Dance Studio. If you have any simple costumes or old clothing at home that you think could be appropriate for these spaces, please feel free to send them in!

Once again, we would like to say thank you for all the support you offer us to make school the best place it can possibly be! We are so lucky to have such a caring and supportive school community around us. Have a great holiday!

Pupil of the Week

FG: Ethan L -

For using creativity and a love of learning when writing an acrostic poem. You reflected on your favourite parts of Term 3 and used WOW words to describe different events. Extraordinary, Ethan!

FH: Nivetha Y -

For showing a love of learning by explaining your thinking in maths! I have enjoyed hearing the connections you make between different numbers, particularly when we explored tens and ones with materials. Great work Nivetha!

FJ: Kiara S -

For using creativity in Guided Inquiry when designing a setting for your fish. You brought your ideas to life by using materials to make a diorama. Keep up the great work Kiara!
