Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

The classrooms were buzzing with productive energy as we prepared to present our Guided Inquiry puppet show to the Foundation students next week. After planning our puppets, we used a variety of items and materials to make our characters, settings and props. Students were challenged to construct a puppet that was durable, colourful and made of different textures. We also spent time rehearsing our plays, memorising our lines, and practising using expression and projecting our voice to an audience.

Another highlight this week was the Book Swap. Thank you to all the families who donated books and contributed to this wonderful event. Students were so excited to choose some books, and all the money raised will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We also enjoyed visiting the I.C.E. Showcase on Friday, and looked at all the amazing creations made by the Senior School over the year.

In Literacy, students wrote questions to interview a book character. Students thought about what questions and wonderings they had for the main character in their class novel. We then took it in turns to step into the shoes of the characters, and answered the questions while ‘in character’. It was a fun way to study characters, and really helped us to understand our character’s motivations and perspective.

We spent our Writing sessions completing our invitations to the upcoming production. We used persuasive and emotive language, included colourful and interesting illustrations and made sure to include all the key information for parents, carers and other loved ones to know.

This week we explored chance and probability during Mathematics. Using dice, spinners and lucky dip, we explored the language of chance such as ‘likely, ‘unlikely’, ‘even chance’ and conducted a range of simple chance experiments.

Next week we are looking forward to our Guided Inquiry showcase on Tuesday, which will be attended by Foundation students. We are also very excited for the Junior School Production! We will have our dress rehearsal next Monday, with Junior Production on Tuesday night. Please see the 'Specialist' part of the newsletter for further details.

As part of our Guided Inquiry next term, we are exploring things from the past. If anyone has some ‘old’ things from previous generations that you are happy to share with students, could you please bring these to your classroom teacher, labelled with the student’s name. We will return these to you in Week 2. It could be anything from old games, toys, cameras, phones, DVD’s, cassette tapes or anything else you can think of! Thank you in advance, the students will be so excited to explore all of our amazing artefacts!

Have a fantastic week,

Mrs Danes, Miss Glen, Mrs Martin, Miss Molloy, Mrs Moroney, Mrs Seadon and Mrs Tang
